PM Browne Calls Early Election Citing Global Uncertainty

7

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called general elections nearly two years ahead of schedule, citing global instability and the need to secure a fresh mandate before potential international crises affect Antigua and Barbuda.

Speaking at the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s (ABLP) campaign launch on Tuesday, Browne described the April 30 poll as a move to ensure governmental continuity rather than a strategy to exploit opposition weakness.

“That is one of the main reasons why I’ve called the early elections, to ensure the continuity of the country,” he said, highlighting the party’s experience in managing crises including COVID-19.

Browne dismissed suggestions that the timing was designed to catch the United Progressive Party (UPP) off guard, insisting the decision prioritised national stability. He urged voters to check their identification cards and participate in the election.

Parliament was dissolved on April 1, with nomination day set for April 13. The snap election comes three years into the current term; the ABLP holds a strengthened position in the 17-seat House of Representatives following by-election gains and floor crossings. The UPP ratified its 16 candidates on Tuesday and will launch its campaign on April 12 under the theme “Ignite.”

  1. Yep Gaston know what sweet in goat mouth sour in it a$$, could you imagine the rebirth (renaissance )of Hitler or alcapone or some of the worst like so call king Leopold that chopped of about 4 million African men hands and held their woman hostage as how church do to get the men to come, or the ALP that seek out young mothers without support for their child from delinquent father’s and struggling and wave a 2 cent Infront of them and use them to model red color clothing for pittance of hope they promised them knowing they will be kicked in the a$$ after the election, to allow Gaston and ALP rebirth (renaissance) to continue their personal enrichment and wickedness like Hitler again , to leave the road and infrastructure rub down and hospital run down is suicidal, we can’t allow Gaston renaissance or rebirth as he exclaim, what had changed about him to have a rebirth? I know christians upon baptism claim a renaissance rebirth, but it’s the same foul mouth Gaston and his minister plundering the treasury monies and selling passports ostensibly for their personal benefit because antigua and Barbuda haven’t realized any benefits from such sales , only the ALP minister see benefit with the amount of real estate they acquired for themselves and cars. No way to Gaston and ALP rebirth renaissance.

  4. FC. Stop the nonsense.

To who much is given, much is expected.

Not giving UPP a pass, but you cannot compare the two terms that UPP held as leaders to the now 3 terms of this current administration, and everyone knows that.
UPP were in power in the worst American financial recession/crisis in its history, where the US government/Obama had to come in and literally save some of the biggest companies in the US and might I say the world, in the bill ” too big to fail”.
America was down on its knees, and so were the struggles of many islands in the Caribbean who depends on the American tourist and investment money.

I bet you forgot, but Antigua was also on its knees from 2008/9 to 2014 when America finally starts seeing some gains in their economy. Shops and malls were shut down everywhere in the US, and good jobs and money were hard to come by.

In contrast, ABLP took office when America had already recovered and were on their way back to the top..people started traveling again, and the investments start flowing through the Carribean unlike any time in its history.
The CIP was one such big investment.

So where is the Money FC? Even COVID actually helped Antigua, because people started coming back home and invest in their island because they saw how fickle life can be.

Antigua should be 15-25 years ahead of where they are right now..it shouldn’t be struggling with roads, water, back pay and the likes.

UPP were deep in the waters because of the American recession..so you stop the damn hypocrisy. Where is all that CIP money and other monies that poured into Antigua FC? That’s what people wants to know. How do your ABLP leaders get so rich, while the people can’t even get their back pay or SS payments?

Talk the facts of what actually happened, because those are the facts.

I do remember, that if it wasn’t for Allen Sanford and his ILL-Gotten gains, Antigua would have been buried 60 feet under the earth at the time. Less you forget.

Do you really expect Labourites to understand what you just posted. You are preaching to a bunch of scatter brained individuals who could care less about facts
