PM blames ‘global logistics’ for delay in building mega Plant

15

Logistics and the wrong timeline are being blamed for the Gaston Browne Administration’s inability to meet the dates it gave for increased water production and distribution,

The Fort James Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant should have been commissioned since June and, subsequently, the date was moved to September.

According to other media reports, Ian Lewis – Manager of the Water Business Unit of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority – said the Plant has been in the commissioning phase since last Tuesday, August 30.

Consumers were promised they would receive water from the Plant by late Saturday, September 3, into Sunday, September 4, barring no unforeseen circumstances.

However, residents in the areas that the Plant is expected to serve say they have not seen any marked improvement in water delivery. In fact, a Yorks resident complains that her pipes were dry for the entire day on Sunday.

Going into defence mode, Prime Minister Browne claims that Opposition members will try to use APUA’s unmet timelines to blame his Administration.

But he says that global logistics are to be blamed for the delayed arrival of parts to complete the Plant.

Due to the absence of a part for one of the two RO plants – which will not arrive on island until October – Browne says there will be a further delay in the 500,000 additional gallons a day that were promised.

The Prime Minister claims that quite a number of parts for the 3-million gallons Plant have been delivered already; however, based on what is transpiring with global logistics, the end-of-the-year timeline is unlikely to be met.

This does not mean the Plant will not be constructed, he says.

Browne claims his Administration has installed at least five RO Plants within the last six years, and that the 3-million gallons Plant will exceed the water production by the former administration in its 10 years.

He alleges that his government has increased the water supply to about 7.5 million gallons, an increase of 4.5 million gallons daily.

Critics say the issue is not so much the production of water; rather, the complaint is that the distribution of water has worsened over the past several years despite the Browne Administration’s boasts.- REAL NEWS

  1. Losers!

    ABLP can’t get anything right.

Fix water in 14 days, they said.

8 years and 2 billion CIP dollars later, look where we are.

Why the last minute hustling after doing nothing and letting the plants run down to half capacity?

Its ALL ABOUT THE ELECTION. Not the people. If they cared about the people we would have consistent progress all along, especially since THEY HAD THE MONEY TO SORT THE ISSUE OUT!

What kind of government would take a Crabbes plant producing 4 million gallons per day, when UPP was voted out, and allow it to run down to 2 million.

Watch this: they ONLY FIXED IT WHEN HAROLD CALLED THEM OUT. You see? ABLP don’t give one damn about the people. They only respond to pressure, and the pressure to win the election and continue the creative enrichment is the ONLY reason they are rushing. And in the rush, which NEVER should have happened, EVERYTHING IS GOING WRONG.

And by the way, Gaston, what happen to the 2 million more gallons you promised by June 1 (you said so during Labour day). What happened to that? Why you so lie? I still only get water on day a week!

    Bastards! Red dead. Vote UPP!

  2. Not sure why he ever gave a deadline for water as we all know that government never delivers anything on time.

  3. Is anyone surprised? This is so typical of Gaston Browne. From day 1 he has BSed the people with YIDA. Even when it was clear that YIDA was a hoax, he continued to add it to the budget for years to give people false hope. Lester warned him about making too many announcements that he can’t deliver on. Who don’t hear will feel!

  4. Surprised he didn’t blame covid-19, the war in Ukraine or even the UPP for their failure to deliver on their promises

  5. … And there you have it citizens of Antigua & Barbuda. I said at the time that the Prime Minister couldn’t deliver on this particular promise, and all that he was trying to do was to hoodwink us to garner our votes for the next General Election.

It’s a real shame though, because I really enjoyed doing the countdowns for the water implementation that he assured us would happen by the 30th of September 2022.

I also note that our Prime Minister is using distracting words like, “global logistics” and “there will be a further delay in the 500,000 additional gallons a day that were promised …”

Look, the reason I did the original timeline for his VOTE-CATCHING – water distribution – promises, because I knew he couldn’t deliver.

However, Gaston Browne’s disciples, acolytes and generational supporters will still try to put him back in office for a DISASTROUS third term for Antigua.

HE CAN DO NO WRONG IN THEIR EYES …

    • Does anyone believes a word he says anymore?

Remember, Gassy 🥸 the UK kicked out their last Prime Minister for many broken promises and lies …

  6. THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF GALLONS PRODUCED PER DAY IS IRRELEVANT IF THE WATER PIPES IN MY HOUSE ARE DRY EVERYDAY!

  7. Is anyone surprised to hear this latest round of excuses? Gaston and his cronies are not in Government to solve the problems facing Antiguans. They are in Government to enrich themselves. Meanwhile, the problems get worse and the excuses become more creative. The water problem can be solved….but not by this ABLP Government. The sooner he calls elections.. the better. We need a Government that can solve problems and move our country forward.

  8. Ebryting fu better the country Gaston mash up while fu he wallet a bus way wid money. Nearga mus suffer while dem dey lib large. GET RID AH DEM me say.

  9. This clueless, greedy, incompetence to the tenth power government does everything last minute, they behave like students who cram for an exam. In a desperate attempt to win an election, They had eight years to gradually work on a plant for a consistent water supply. All dem useless self good for a fu lie, bully and enrich themselves.

  10. What does blaming someone mean?
Blame is defined as assigning responsibility for a fault or wrong. We blame others for a number of events: so and so made us late, she made me feel guilty, they pressured me to make a decision, he made me explode with rage. Blaming others leads to several unhelpful emotions, such as resentment, anger, and hatred.
So the PM giving information as to why the completion of a project will be delayed is “Blaming”?
Well well well. What a bad use or miss-use of the English language.
Covid causes many sad things to happen. Because of Covid many people die. Do we blame covid? No That is why we have to follow protocols and take personal responsibility and keep safe.

    • Nice try @ From The Sideline, but all you’ve done is try to deflect from the ABLP’S shortcomings and ended up speaking a load of GOBBLEDYGOOK!

I HAD TO READ YOUR COMMENT A FEW TIMES AND WAS NONE THE WISER, HOWEVER, I COMMEND YOUR BLIND LOYALTY …
