Prime Minister Gaston Browne has acknowledged mounting public dissatisfaction with aspects of ongoing roadworks, saying the government will be reviewing contractor performance to address concerns about quality and durability.
Speaking on his weekly radio programme on Pointe FM, Browne pointed to issues in areas such as Fryes and Five Islands, where residents have criticised recent infrastructure work as substandard.
He admitted that some projects may not have met expectations and confirmed that an internal assessment is underway.
“I think that the layer they have put down on the Green Bay to Five Islands road is not thick enough,” Browne said. “There are clearly areas where we need to go back and get it right.”
The Prime Minister indicated that the Ministry of Works has been directed to investigate the quality of road surfacing, particularly in locations where drainage issues have been reported.
In Fryes, complaints have surfaced over inadequate water management near residential areas, prompting further scrutiny from public officials.
Browne added that new equipment for road construction, including a pug mill, has recently arrived but is awaiting final calibration and training before deployment. He urged the public to exercise patience as improvements are rolled out in the coming weeks.
“We are mobilising,” he said. “I ask for a little forbearance — we’ll get there.”
The Prime Minister reiterated his administration’s commitment to long-term infrastructure development and promised greater accountability for contractors involved in public works.

Finally, some acknowledgment. These roads have been terrible for years!
Why did it take so long to admit there’s a problem?
How many reviews do we need? Just fix the roads properly the first time.
He says review… but when will that translate into repairs?
The roads are damaging people’s vehicles every day.
