A fitting celebration as a plaque of appreciation was awarded to the New Winthorpes Primary School on Friday April 1st.
On the eve of their 80th anniversary of resettlement, the people of New Winthorpes Community paid a courtesy call on their Alma Mater, where a plaque was handed over to the educational institution by members of the community group.
A similar event will be held on Monday April 4th at the Clare Hall Secondary School…..
It was April 2nd 1942 that the last home left Old Winthorpes Farm to where the village is now geographically located as New Winthorpes… That will be 80 years on Saturday.

The settlement was WINTHORPE FARM. There was no “old” in the name and was relocated to Blizzards estate in 1942 to make way for the Americans. The villagers, wishing not to lose their identity and their village name voted to rename it NEW WINTHORPES VILLAGE as it is known to this day.
Happy 80th anniversary to (us) the people of that beautiful village. One of the best laid out villages in Antigua
