Plans ongoing to preserve Wallings Nature Reserve

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs has partnered with the Wallings Nature Reserve Inc. to upgrade the management of this important national treasure.

Minister of Agriculture, Dean Jonas toured the facility on Thursday and the team, headed by Ms. Rifica Attwood, provided him with an update on the work that was done so far on the upgrades to the nature park.

They included the cleaning up of the trails and buildings and setting proper maintenance and overall management structures in place.

The Agriculture Minister said that he was very pleased with what he has seen to date.

Minister Jonas stated, “We expect to continue to work with Ms. Attwood and her team to continue the improvements and preservation of the nature reserve.”

The Wallings Area, which is one of the many historical sites in Antigua and Barbuda spreads some 1,680 acres and is located in the Southwestern side of the island.

According to reports, the Reserve is being used as an International Case Study to garner the impact that a local community can have in making a difference in the fight against Climate Change, while promoting gender equality.

  2. This is great news about Antigua and Barbuda. There are rich history of Antigua at this historical area. I hope it will be posted on a bulletin board at the entrance.
