Plans for a multi-purpose development at Tindale Park are advancing, with land acquisition nearing completion, ABLP candidate and Education Minister Daryll Matthew said during an interview on ABS Television’s “Know Your Candidates” programme.
Matthew said the project hinges on securing approximately an acre and a half of land through an exchange arrangement with a private family, noting that discussions are at an advanced stage.
“There’s a parcel of land at the top of Tindale Road… we are at an advanced stage, and I believe we’re at the end stage of negotiating with the family… so that the government could acquire that,” he said.

He outlined a plan to transform the site into a community hub featuring a two-storey building, small business spaces and recreational facilities.
“The upper floor of the building will be a community centre… you can have community meetings, after-school programmes… the community can have access to it,” Matthew said. “The lower portion of it will be a remodelled bandhouse for the Pandemonium Steel Orchestra.”
The development will also include a dedicated area for micro-enterprises, with space for roughly a dozen small operators.
“You’ll see a series of small buildings… we are setting up there a small business hub… there are spaces for approximately 10 or 12 of these small business hubs,” he said, suggesting uses such as barber shops, bakeries and other small trades.
Matthew said the aim is to create opportunities for residents to earn income within the community, adding that “the government can’t be the only employer in the country.”
The site will also feature a fenced playground and park, which he said has already been sourced through donations.
Funding for the wider project is expected to come from a mix of private support and community effort rather than direct government financing.
“I’ve been speaking to private donors already… I’m not asking anybody for money… I need some steel… we will do fundraisers… I can get labour from the community,” he said.
Matthew said the proposal is part of a broader effort to improve quality of life in the densely populated constituency, where limited government-owned land has constrained development.
He described the project as a firm commitment if re-elected, adding, “If it wasn’t realistic, I wouldn’t put it in here and promise it.”

We REDy 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩
Embarrassing!!!
Only the lickspittling boot-lickers and the untutored ABLP acolytes will fall for all these inducements, temptations and financial baits.
I can’t wait to witness when everything goes belly-up, and the obvious backlash that’ll follow after the General Election when every penny cent has to be repaid by the public at large.
If you all thought that Gaston Browne was spending too much time dancing abroad when he had troubles in Antigua, you haven’t seen anything yet. It’ll me more like ” ah where Gassston dey?”.
I feel sorry for those Antiguans who want to leave, but can’t…
Antiguans nah REDy for what’s coming 😏
Again @The RENAISSANCE, REDy for what??? Explain your so you can gain some sort of ABLP support, or people will assume that you cannot.
It seems you nah REDy 🤣🤣🤣
Movie actors in Hollywood have nothing over these ALP politicians, this Daryl Matthew makes for an impression that he is an outsider trying to get into power and is now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel to achieve such small gesture in the heat of the election, it makes you wonder if Daryl is a UPP candidate.
@BRIXTONIAN GOOD ONE 😂… As the time runs out, we must take heed of this blitz the ABLP is pushing. This blitz shouldn’t even be necessary—if they had been doing their jobs from the start, we wouldn’t need this rushed, intense effort now. When they rely on a blitz, it’s a sign of fear—big bulletin boards all over the streets of Antigua, splashed with their message. They’re trying to outspend, not outdo. This isn’t about more ads—it’s about doing the work. The roads should already be repaired; the water should already be flowing. And we should be able to get our visas, go about our lives, but instead, the CIP program has left us compromised. It didn’t help the little man—it just funneled money into their own circle, while we saw nothing. And don’t even get me started on the boat sale, with its enormous kickbacks. Let this be a wake-up call. Don’t fall for the mirage. This blitz is a desperate move—selfish, short-sighted—and if they really cared about the country, they would have performed from day one, giving the people a fair chance to choose. Instead, they called this election early—two and a half years ahead—showing their desperation, their self-interest. So, don’t be fooled—this is about them, not us. Let the people decide, and don’t drink the Kool-Aid. The blitz should never have been needed—because the job should have been done from the beginning.
In the short space of time before election ABLP is coming with all sorts of plans and projects which suggests they are lying. The UPP should be the ones scrambling because they were caught by surprise
Antiguans use your heads the ABLP is fooling us as is their custom. SEND THEIR ASSES HOME
