Apilot and three passengers are counting their blessings today after they escaped death when the plane they were travelling on crash-landed at the Rémy-de-Haenen Airport in Saint Barthélemy.

Video footage of the dramatic landing, which was shared on social media, showed the single-engine Piper 28 R aircraft touching down at a high speed before it veered off the runway and crashed into a sign.

Up until midday, investigators were on the scene examining the site before the wrecked plane was towed away.

The Rémy-de-Haenen Airport is listed as one of the world’s most dangerous airports since pilots must descend down a cliff, in close proximity to vehicular traffic, to land on the short runway.
