The Antigua Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) marked its 86th anniversary today with a message of hope and commitment from its president, Bernard de Nully.
In a statement shared with members and the public, Mr de Nully reflected on the union’s enduring legacy and its role in uplifting workers across Antigua and Barbuda.
He likened the union’s presence to the sun, describing it as a “highly favoured” institution that radiates authority and strength.
“As the dawn of a new day personifies the belief that all things are possible through Christ who strengthens us, and as we see the sun in the sky shining boldly and displaying its glory and authority, be it said today that the Antigua Trades and Labour Union is blessed,” he declared.
Mr de Nully reaffirmed the union’s mission to ensure that work remains a source of empowerment, offering economic rewards that exceed basic needs for members and their families.
He extended the union’s commitment to serving all citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, positioning the AT&LU as the “Standard Bearer of All Unions.”
Established in 1939, the AT&LU has been at the forefront of advocating for workers’ rights, championing fair wages, improved working conditions, and social justice.
The anniversary celebrations also serve as a reminder of the union’s pivotal role in shaping the nation’s labour movement, which continues to play a significant part in Antigua and Barbuda’s development.
As the AT&LU celebrates this milestone, its leadership expressed gratitude to its members for their continued trust and support.
