A petition calling for the renaming of the Mount St. John Medical Center (MSJMC) in honour of the late Sir Prince Ramsey gathers over 1000 signatures within 24 hours.
The petition was created by Antiguan Carlon Knight on May 4th. In his caption to the petition, Knight said he wanted to call on the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda to rename the MSJMC the Sir Prince Ramsey Memorial Hospital. In explaining his motives, he said that, “Sir Prince was a medical pioneer par excellence in Antigua and Barbuda. His work and life is an inspiration to all Antiguans and Barbudans,” adding that an official funeral was not enough to commemorate his life.
Since created, the petition has gathered tremendous momentum and social media has been buzzing with many Antiguans and Barbudans commenting on and sharing it. It has even got the attention of a few high-profile members of society.
The online petition also invites signatories to explain their reasons for their support if they wish. Many have left comments expressing that the gesture is well deserving and timely. They spoke of how Sir Prince touched each of their lives and of his kind and caring demeanour. One person commenting on the petition said, “Dr. Prince Ramsey lived and worked for the betterment of Antigua. He didn’t seek fortune. He didn’t seek fame. He toiled faithfully to build Antigua a good name. King Obstinate (Paul Richards) called for this honour in the days of Holberton Hospital. My people, let’s do the right thing and grant Sir Prince Ramsey the honour that is due until [sic] him. “Gi Jack e jacket.”…”
Earlier reports were that the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda had agreed to rename the country’s main hospital after national hero Sir Lester Bird. Knight hopes that by gathering enough signatures he can show there is strong popular support in the country for the hospital to be named after Sir Prince Ramsey instead. If successful, he intends to formally write the Cabinet with this request.

I support the change in his honor wholeheartedly and in great strides.
He lives on not just in words but in deeds.
That hospital can’t stay up to that mans name work or standard over all
