Kelsick, who has been operating his business at the same location since 1984, is speaking out against what he perceives as unjust treatment by both the hotel developers and government authorities.

“I have been representing Antigua since 1983, before the Olympics, and my presence here has been unbroken since then,” Kelsick stated, emphasizing his deep connection to the area.

“This business is my only source of income; it feeds me, pays my bills, and supports my family,” he added, highlighting the economic impact of his establishment.

Kelsick also addressed the issue of complaints, stating, “Not that I can recall any complaints; in fact, I’ve had many compliments from tourists for the vibrant atmosphere we provide.”

The justification given for his relocation was that his business obstructed views from the hotel rooms.

However, Kelsick refuted this claim, saying, “The initial word to me was that we were blocking views from the hotel rooms, but there’s no blocking, and the structure is not high.”

Regarding compensation for relocation, Kelsick mentioned, “There was mention of compensation initially, but it has not materialized. It’s a take-it-or-leave-it offer with no negotiation.”

“It’s like something out of a mafia case, where they tell you to take their offer or face forced removal with no compensation,” Kelsick expressed, highlighting the unfairness of the situation.

  1. I find it unfair but maybe if he develop this place upgrade the looks he can do well. I do not think he will never be compensated for this if it comes to this. By the way one question, do he has a legal document or permission to operate on that spot even though he is there from 1983?? if he has a legal document then it is illegal to force him off that spot.

  2. the man don’t need to be paid he needs to continue to make his own money and keep active. wah aryou want di man fu do at this age go home go lie dung n grieve to death? RIDICULOUS!!! that’s why the crime rate is so high and getting higher, and y’all saying young people don’t want work to do, some of them don’t, and you have those that don’t wanna work for anybody which is great but, when they try ah likkle thing for themselves they get fight down same way.

the only thing the born citizens of antigua will be good enough to do is clean the side of these excuse for roads we have here smh

  3. When are y’all going to understand that the government DOES NOT GIVE ONE CRAP about locals for the benefit of their pockets!!!!

  4. Soon all the Beaches in Antigua would be taken over by Hotels. Then what would the people do then? When there are no beaches for locals to visit. I am in Antigua every year.On one of my trips.I visited what is known as Yorks Bay.A security guard came up to me and told me.I could not go onto the beach.I did tell him to stop me.I went and swam around until I was satisfied and left.ALL OF THE DAMN BEACHES IN ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA ARE PUBLIC BEACHES.SOME ARE ONLY ACCESSIBLE BY BOATS.NO ONE HAS THE RIGHTS TO STOP ANYONE IN THAT NATION FROM ACCESSING THE BEACHES.

  5. Peter, don’t move unless you are compensated for the value of your business. As an Antiguan who lives in the US, I stayed at the Halycon Cove back in the day. My kids grew up on that beach every summer since 1982, and now my grandkids. We use your business. You have a right to hold on to your little bit of paradise.
This government is out of control and shows the people born in Antigua everyday how little they care about us. We must show this government that Antiguans will not be kicked out of their homes and businesses any longer to be replaced by foreigners to enrich those in high places.
Next they will kick the Hodges out of Fort James and Shirley Heights and sell them to the Chinese.

    • They are, but read the legislation carefully. It’s public for a very small amount, just beyond the high water mark. stupid lelaw , it should have kept development back 1000 feet from the beach and then this problem wouldn’t exist

  6. I am still interested to know if he has a legal document stating permission to occupy that spot? Even though he’s there for decades.

  7. SOON GB WILL BE SELLING FORT JAMES AND SHIRLEY HEIGHTS TO THE CHINESE.
PETER, FIGHT FOR YOUR BIT OF PARADISE.
    YOU EARNED IT.

    • All a aru pan ya a chat no fuck and not one of aru a go protest with the man to save he business. Bunch a keyboard worriers that why Gaston do as he like cause aru just chat and punky no shit…. 8. He said his father was one of the pioneers in Antigua tourism so maybe he had hand in breakdown king Short Shirt (Da Monarch) beach bar@ when they were rebuilding Hyatt HC. Karma is a bitch..I hope he get his problem resolved God just showing him how Da Monarch was feeling @ the time.

  9. This hermit won’t even say boo to you unless you have white skin, now all of a sudden you a son of the soil business man. Ah dat wah mek Shorty boys buss you fukin head dung dey looool

  10. When will Antiguans realize that Gaston does not care about Antiguans? His priority is staying in power so he and family can get richer and they can continue to accumulate Antiguan and Barbuda assets. He will marginalize Antiguans by bringing in non nationals to vote for him. He will be pleased when all Antiguans are cleaning toilets at the hotels and not making money from their own businesses. He and his family are the only ones who should make money. Some Antiguans for a long time wanted to set up an abattoir in Antigua. Now I heard him on his radio station saying his farm will be setting one up.
Antiguans will never prosper as long as Gaston is prime minister of this country. Have you noticed the number of beggars on the street.

  12. Peter crying and he sitting on millions his father left him after selling Blue Waters hotel. He has no family.

  13. This man no lease for the land he squatting on Government land for year’s without paying a cent. Please check what he contributed in taxes over these years! Peter adds no value to the beach! He is mean greedy old man!

    • lol like you fucking mean greedy foreign investors who come to Antigua to short change our locals for the hard work they do in your hotels.

  14. I am assuming based on this conversation he did not have title to the property. However, that may be irrelevant now, based on the many decades he has been operating on, in possession of, and controlling such land.

I do believe the government should take this opportunity to work out something fair for all parties. It genuinely cause me to think about my own situation simply seeking the encouragement, support, and reasonable accommodation from this Government for my business that is of national and international importance with its substantial merit but was told, I can not help you. The most basic request from my government that only required for decisions to be timely and reasonably made to facilitate me.

I did not request money or duty free or free land. I simply wanted something as simple as the government ruling that providing legal and emotional support for victims of crimes to be a matter of national importance, a vital service, not only for tourist, but for locals. This was just a request that all good countries easily provide while in Antigua this was considered to not be important at all to facilitate such service provider.

I genuinely believe providing US tourist, who are victims of certain vicious and qualifying crimes while they visit and spend millions locally, with such service tremendously strengthens the local tourism products. Research and commonsense have shown that people will prefer to visit places they feel safer and have access to vital resources if they are victimized. Especially when all the resources I mention here will be coming from US crime victim funds from the tourist’s state they reside or the federal government terrorism fund, etcetera. Literally zero expense to the local government. Just needed the tools and resources that is reasonably required to provide such services to the victims (regionally).

I literally would be required to investigate vicious and qualifying crimes that my clients alleged while visiting locally and regionally and present such evidence to various boards that includes US state crime victim funds programs, Federal terrorism fund program and even USCIS (DHS and US Department of State).

This is not a one-sided service because the US provide all these same and more services for Antiguans and Barbudans and every person in the Caribbean region if they are victims of crimes while visiting the US or if they are victim of crimes outside the US which specifically violates a US law. They would be entitled to funds, US immigration benefits etcetera, even if they are not in the US and is in Antigua and Barbuda or the caribbean region.

Why was it so hard for this government to facilitate such endeavor that not only protects US citizens, greencard holders but actually Antiguans and Barbudans too.

Why is it hard to simply look at the pith and big picture of things and facilitate and support locals doing great things for their nations and humanity?

  15. You got to be kidding. That miser worst than Mr. Scrooge. He have no family, he living on a hill above Blue Waters where poor people can’t go near or his nasty dogs will be set on them. His father left him millions after selling Blue Waters Hotel. He always move like he have nothing but that is only to get attention and sympathy. Peter go home and retire with your dogs. Let the hotel give opportunities to real poor people.
