A young man, 18 years old, has been taken into custody in connection with the country’s first murder of the year.
Late on Monday evening, authorities detained the Bethesda resident for further questioning as they pursued leads regarding an armed robbery that resulted in the death of Roudi Shmaly, aged 25.
The tragic incident occurred at 1 pm on DeSouza Road at the Pick ‘N’ Mix Mart. During the robbery, the assailant entered the store and held the cashier at gunpoint, stealing an undisclosed amount of money. Tragically, when Shmaly entered the nearby Chicken Hub and proceeded into the superette, he was fatally shot by the perpetrator.
As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the case, and investigations are still ongoing.

If he was a jamaican it would be stated as headline dont it
Hi is actually.
What is an 18 year old doing with a gun??
Young people are being led into this thinking that they don’t have to care about or be concerned about anyone anymore. The songs that they are listening to preach this. The videos they are watching promote this behavior. Their parents or the adults around the do not say anything when the young people start showing signs of disrespect. The clues are there and the consequences will follow. Mind your children!! Teach them the ways of manners and good behaviour and correct them when you see them straying away from your teaching. Otherwise the violence will increase and the safety of our little slice of paradise will be in jeopardy. Pull up your children NOW before they end up in jail!!
Government need to urgently pass a law. No Hoodie allowed in any business place.
This “As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the case, and investigations are still ongoing” is getting on ma nerves….but when investigations have been completed and he is guilty of the crime, is he another person that taxpayers have to feed?? Cuz…better he dead!!!
Samething am saying. Ah too sorry the Serian family them nah ketch him kill him before police caught him. He had heart to rob and kill so kill him. Now he ga go up jail and eat tax payers money.
Or dead. They spoil there children to damn much ,for children are to be loved but know their damn place they are never to small to learn
This is not cool. This will not be tolerated. Antigua is a peaceful fun loving place. If you see something, say something. He mercilessly killed the man.
Antigua should start implementing something similar to what NY is doing. No mask when you enter a business. Once the video captures your entrance on camera, then you can put it on if that is your preference.
I would also add no hoodies or hats as well, as this is how they hide their identity. Praying for the 268 🙏🏾🇦🇬
Or dead. They spoil there children to damn much ,for children are to be loved but know their damn place they are never to small to learn
Or dead. They spoil there children to damn much ,for children are to be loved but know their damn place they are never to small to learn. Kill his ass clean up the damn place don’t leave him to fester
Death penelty we must clean up the place. Tax payers to feed that we don’t want such amongst us retire that bastard and others like him, they are sicking to society get rid of them
some things they can’t be rehabilitate
Wow 18. Whether Jamaican or not is irrelevant. This is a youth who killed another youth. We just lost 2 lives , 2 men. O my God, we need divine intervention.
The law makers and the penal system is broken. Antiguans should lobby their parliament representatives to endorse the return of hanging or lethal injection.
It is an abused of tax payers money to keep this young murderer in prison for an indefinite period. The shooter has taken someone’s life therefore it’s proper he should loses his own.
A clear message should be given to individuals who are prepared to commit henious crime that they should be prepared for severe reactions and I don’t mean time behind prison walls or doors . Give them an immediate exit from society.
It would appear that the free movement within Caricom is NOT working, and it needs to be stopped in Antigua. Antigua appears to be getting the criminal and minimally educated element resulting in this island becoming overcrowded to the point where the medical, school, road/sidewalk system and law enforcement have been stretched beyond capacity to the extreme detriment of the Antiguan population. Antigua is beginning to look like a dirty dump and not even the sewage and septic systems can cope. Anyone who wants to reside here needs to go through a strict and controlled immigration process.
To cold bloodedly be able to kill an innocent young man by shooting him in his head is really another level of foul ignorant human waste that, thanks to “free movement” has come to Antigua to rob, kill and rape innocent residents!!
Selling unsafe vehicles to immigrants who cannot drive properly who have to buy gas that supports (dividends?) WIOL is not worth the deterioration, destruction and out of control crime that IS Antigua right now. The PM and co. created this problem and they need to put a stop to it before Antigua turns into another bankrupt Haiti. If the other islands want free movement that is their choice, but it definitely needs to be stopped (along with corruption from the most corrupt in the world Nigeria) in Antigua. Do something beneficial for Antigua and Barbuda for once and do it now!! Activate the death penalty.
No more Sunday school.. Right now a Skeng and Skillibeng… Scamma talk and chop e line talk a do it. Man kill and Murder for real and put it in song… and these are the people our young people listening to daily. its called Art!!
Take the guilty party to the center of the city, maybe the intersection of High st and Market st, and let the Syrian community do whatever they choose to do to him.
Then exact some Haitian justice.
Ahmmm, what part of Jamaica is he or they from again? I seem to have missed that part.
I hope our police have enough funds and time to trace the gun. Where did this young man get the gun from? Who is bringing guns into Antigua?
