Payment Plan For People With Approved Duty Free On Vehicles

The government says payment plans will be offered by the Customs and Excise Division to those who have purchased cars abroad and will seek to clear those vehicles from the Port.

The decision to discontinue the offer of reduction in duties and taxes on cars has ended due to a shortfall in revenue from the COVID-19 crisis.

“It is replaced by the payment plan at a time when revenues have declined precipitously,” the government announced last week.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the concession will remain in place for bus and taxi operators.

People who imported cars and have not cleared them up until the point of the policy change will have to pay the full duty but on payment terms.

  1. People stop concentrate on buying used cars.Used that money to secure a piece of the Rock. Land is the best investment in Antigua.Lands usually appreciate in value,while cars depreciate.Own a piece of your Country.Why do you think all of those foreigners are buying up lands in Antigua.Instead of getting a payment plan to pay duties on old cars.Secure a payment plan on a loan for a piece of land.

    • You can do both of those things at the same time. It doesn’t have to be one or the other

      • Maybe that is why I had lands in Antigua before I bought a car.I knew the value of lands back then.I am old school,not too smart.

    • I agree with you! I mean it’s their money and they can do whatever they want with it, but secure something that appreciates in value over time than something that depreciates in value the second it’s driven off the lot.

  3. I agree with you both. Secure lands for yourselves….Highest level of extortion hitting people at a time like this. Sad to say but there will be a huge auction at the port as a result of this.
