A pathologist testified that 17-year-old Jael Thomas bled to death from an injury to her left foot.

Thomas’ grandmother, 70-year-old Millicent Cornwall-Roberts is on trial for murder accused of beating the teenager to death with a stick in 2014.

Dr. Lester Simon told the court, Thomas’ vital organs failed after there was no longer sufficient blood to meet the demands of the body.

Dr. Simon said the fatal injury was about 2.5cm deep and could have been caused by end of a piece of wood.

A previous witness testified seeing the accused beating the deceased with a piece of stick that was about four feet long and two inches wide.
