The National Parks Authority (NPA) has been using the abrupt end to the yachting season to ensure the highest possible environmental and conservation standards are maintained around the Nelson’s Dockyard and beyond.
As part of this process the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) will be clearing blockages and cleaning drains in the Dockyard Drive Area over the next few days.
To ensure the entire exercise meets all the appropriate environmental standards including those established by the National Parks Authority, the experts from a number of key agencies including the Fisheries Division, the Department of Environment and the Central Board of Health have been consulted and are involved in planning and execution of the program.
Collaboratively, the entities are working to improve the flow in drains under a section of the road of Dockyard Drive so as to alleviate the risk of flooding and to reduce the stagnant water that has now settled in the area.
Mangrove seedlings, according to the NPA, will be removed by the Department of Environment for replanting in its nursery.
The National Parks Authority is therefore requesting the understanding and patience of businesses and members of the public while these crucial exercises are carried out with the overall aim of protecting the environment and building resilience.
