The man who was involved in a violent incident with the principal of the Mary E. Piggott Primary School, has been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison.
Michael Samuel, the parent at the centre of the controversy, was denied bail in the St. John’s Magistrates Court today, March 13, with his lawyer, Wendel Robinson, advised to make an application in the High Court, instead.
Meanwhile, Samuel, who is facing three charges – malicious damage of a gold chain, trespassing, and battery – had his matter adjourned to April 17.
Last Wednesday, March 8, following a confrontation between the two, it is alleged that Samuel tackled Christopher Roberts from behind, knocking him to the floor.
Reportedly, the confrontation stemmed from the fact that Samuel’s son had been suspended from school on account of his behaviour.
As a consequence of what they saw as escalating violence on the school compounds, several schools staged sit-ins on Friday last week, demanding improved security on the compounds.

Always think before you act, since actions have consequences.
hope the day dont come when teachers beat up on your children with no satisfaction, i am nit condoning the parents behaviour but this beating on on children must stop slavery has been abolish teachers must do better
@Antiguan
Where has it been officially stated that this teacher beat up on the child? From the accounts, the child was suspended from school for bad behaviour. And the parent thought he had the right to go to school to beat up the teacher. The father is a very ignorant man and that is why he is in jail. Who is going to support his children? You people should stop lambasting teachers as you don’t know the issues they have to deal with each with some children with criminal minds.
Rest in Peace CriminaL Elements..
Pride at STAKE
Don’t let it FALL..
If it’s not Resolved
It WiLL FALL…
On All ah WE..
The parent overacted by taking the law into his hands…acts of violence on any level is unacceptable including schools abusing its position.
The court had at its disposal different forms of punishment other than remanding the parent to prison. A fine and community service and offer the parent anger management therapy.
An African was accused of committing fraud involving defrauding his fellow country man, the police released the fraudster without bringing him before the courts and released him with no further action.
Admittedly, the incidents are not the same, but nonetheless, they both are breeches of the law and the law should be proportionate and fair and without bias.
So if that parent can go to Jail, what about Dean Jonas? The laws are so one sided!! I dont Condon violence but no teacher should be hitting any child in this day and age!!
i agree
Citizens should petition the Attorney General ‘s Office and seek judicial review. The Magistrate’s decision to remand the parent to prison is extremely harsh.
Additionally, the magistrate overlooked that he is a single parent and evidently gave no consideration for the care and welfare of the child.
The child has been traumatised sufficiently from the ghastly happenings and now the court has callously inflicted further trauma.
@ smh totally agree, only time politians go jail is when they thief too much and others are aware and are upset they didn’t get that opportunity.
The scales of justice will forever be unfair to the common man.
God don’t sleep though, better to suffer now and reap the greatest reward later.
This is no excuse to act the way that parent acted but we’re all humans and justice must be served equally if not this type of behavior will never cease.
People will always fight the negative elements for equality and fair justice, even if it means jail time, too much oppression.
Lol, looks like he won’t make “bring your parents to school” day
I am sorry for this father. I think the magistrate made an emotional decision.
i agree
Hey guys on another note Mr.Watts did himself and the people of St.George justice today in parliament. He sounded well research and was confident. He was one of the better speakers on both sides. I give him an A.
His closing was spot on and when he sat the camera went on GB, he looked like he was in shock. Like he was hit by a brick. Serpent sounded much better than degree Dean Jonás did throughout his tenure. He pushed Chet Green to the limit. This 9/8 majority will be kept on their toes . Good for democracy in this country.
It amazes me that this man was not granted Bail. Is he a flight risk? Is he going to run away to Bathlodge or Bendals? In a newspaper in Antigua last year,2022.I did read where a Businessman from the Jolly Harbor area was arrested and charged for Rape. He was given bail by the same Courts in Antigua. Wasn’t he a flight risk? Antigua still remains a CLASSIST ISLAND TO THIS DAY.It is not what you know. It is who you know that determines whether you go to Prison or not. Many of you are telling me Justice in Antigua and Barbuda is blind. To that I say, hell no. This man should be accorded bail.Friends in Courts are better than monies in your pockets.
The miscarriage of justice has begun in this case as evidence by the denial of bail for the defendant.
Deny bail of child molesters!
Deny bail of Rapists!
Deny bail of Murderers!
Deny bail of persons that LEAVES the scene of an accident!
Antigua is a Shit Hole Country with its Kangaroo Court.

When you hear both sides of the story, you realize that the principal’s arrogant way of dealing with the parent is what triggered the fuse of the parent to snap. And one can quite well understand that reaction. The magistrate, however, wants to teach him a lesson even before he faces the jury. In my humble opinion, the principal is as much at fault.
He was probably denied bail as an example to those parents who think they can go to schools and beat up teachers. He is paying for his ignorance and sickness. No wonder his child got suspended from school. They say life father like son.
Well, if like father like son, then we can expect the son of that piece of shit man that mowed down those two foriegn medical students and kept going to do the same like his father. Let’s hope it’s not your child that will be mowed down by the son.
Teachers are perpetrators of state sanctioned violence against a demographic that cannot defend themselves — A cowards solution of dealing with a difficult situation.
You are jumping over a CLIFF IN YOUR CONCLUSION.
