PAPA JACK: ‘Any vote for the UPP is going to be wasted’

received all my Primary and Secondary Education at Tax Payers Expense. I won a scholarship from the Canadian International Agency Agency (CIDA) that took me to the University of the West Indies (UWI) where I studied Accounting and Economics. CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP FOR NEWS UPDATES.

I am an Accountant and Auditor with over forty years experience and know the Antiguan Business Landscape very well.

All I am trying to do is make a contribution toward the Political Education of Antiguan society, because I see that people are being fooled by local politicians over and over again. I refute the allegations levelled against me as follows:

1. It is a fact that both Bryson’s Food Emporium (Food City) and the Bargain Centre Supermarket suffered much from the manner of implementation of the ABST. It’s very unfortunate that some of our Government leaders will repeatedly make unforgivable errors that cost the Business Community and the Antigua and Barbuda public dearly. And, the two (2) businesses named did in fact collapsed as a result of Government’s failed policies during the time when Mr. Harold Lovell served as Finance Minister.

2. If I am seen as an enemy of the state, I am happy because Jesus Christ suffered the safe fate. Many societies in the world have routinely killed their prophets, so I have a lot of company.

I am not here to make excuses for the ABLP Government: but, if people are suffering hardship, clearly some of the blame can be attributed to the pandemic, which must have set back the country.

3. A politician should know that it’s time to quit when he loses his seat the first time. If Mr. Lovell was a great Finance Minister, why do you think the people fired him in 2014 and he failed to gain reelection again in 2018. He is done: and, will fail to win back his seat again in the next General Election.

Antigua will never get better if you keep trying to elect failures and losers to parliament. You need to try new people.

4. I voted for UPP in 2004 and 2009, but voted for ABLP in 2014. I voted for UPP in 2018. I will be voting for the DNA in the next General Election, because our male political leaders have constantly failed me. And, I believe the DNA will transform our country’s economy in a way that will best benefit our citizens.

I am not beholden to any politician. I am an opposition person at heart, but sometimes help to vote them out when they mess up. I cannot in good conscience criticize Mr. Gaston’s Browne Government: I think he is a darn cunning and smart cookie.

However, I will be voting Opposition in the General Election: but, I can’t vote for the UPP under Mr. Harold Lovell’s leadership. I believe the time has come for Antigua and Barbuda to choose a Woman Prime Minister: I therefore ask all the women of Antigua and Barbuda, and also other Macho Men like myself, to give a woman a chance this time, and vote for the Democratic National Alliance (DNA).

Any vote for the UPP is going to be wasted, because they can’t win the General Election. So, please, let all Opposition people Unite Behind the Democratic National Alliance, and vote in our First Woman Prime Minister, who is going to make us all proud.

    • IF I WERE YOU I’D START MOVING.

NO SENSE TO HOLD BACK, AS UPP WILL WIN.

NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD VOTE ABLP BACK IN POWER WITH ALL THE HUNGER AND STARVATION IN THE ISLAND…..ROCKETING COST OF LIVING, ROCKETING OIL PRICES WHICH COULD BE ALLEVIATED WITH GOVERNMENT’S INTERVENTION.
ANTIGUA PEOPLE DO YOU LIKE THE PAIN AND SUFFERING UNDER THE ABLP, NON-CARING GOVERNMENT.
THEY ARE SO DESPERATE, A LETTER OR TWO IS WRITTEN BY THE SAME PERSON EVERY DAY, BECAUSE THEY SENSE THEIR DRINKING WELLS FROM THE THROAT OF ANTIGUANS WILL SOON BE DRIED UP.
      VOTE DEM OUT!!! NOW

      • So u are blaming ABLP for gas and oil prices. Boy poor some a you. They should stop subsidizing those things and make you guys pay cost. So if they buy it for $1 u pay $1 if they buy for $50 u pay $50. Do u watch the news. To u follow any real happenings in the work. It’s almost $2. Canadian for a litre. Do we produce anything. Have u tried buying anything online 5 years ago and try buy it today. The price hike(rocketing) is substantial. Are you just like easy living. Work hard. Try save. Live along your means. Do u need internet at all? If u in poverty cellphone and data go first. Then antugua small so car no necessary. Grow lime for juice and grow ground food and tap buy. Are u blame government for everything. Instead of coming with problem come up with solution. Teach our children to live on the soil. How many a your kids know how to fish? Go crab hunting? Caterpillar birds? U would be surprised how far $100 can go if u really take track and grow your own stuff.

    • @ Just saying. Start to pack ( don’t forget your tutu). Please take Peter Wickham with you and you can both live a very happy life.
      Bye! bye!
      You will not be missed!

    • The day Gaston and his cabol the ALP win the next election many Antiguans will be running away from their country in droves.
Scores are already lining up for when the Canadians arrive to take biometrics, so they can get Canadian visa.
Not to mention those looking US visa also.

    • … and the day that ABLP wins another election, I won’t be reinvesting and restarting my business in my beloved Antigua …

    • @Just saying, what has Gaston done for you lately? If you can convince me that Gaston Brown is doing anything to help the local people, I will consider.

      Lay it out!

  1. Papa Jack. I won’t argue with you since that’s your opinion and you’re entitled to. I too have voted for both main parties multiple time. Let me state a few short facts
    1. Over a thousand small businesses closed their doors during covid because government didn’t assist them

    2. If you have an issue with Lowell’s age, call out Robin, Cutie, Londell and Molwyn.

Now let me ask 2 questions of you
    1. How many finance ministers have retained their seats over the past 20 years? Everything is laid at their feet.

    2. How much are you been paid, promised or afraid to lose? Because I’ve been forefront in the political landscape long enough to know your type

  2. Perhaps a coalition government can be formed if neither the UPP or DNA have enough votes to win outright. These political parties need to grow up and stop acting like children. It’s time for them to realize that half a pie is better then no pie at all.

    • I’ve been saying this from morning @ Angel, at least a coalition will put the welfare of the country and its citizens up front, instead of lining the pockets of singular party appointees, like we are witnessing with the ABLP at present.

Antigua 🇦🇬 cannot run like this anymore, our hard earned EC Dollar has to be accountable now and forever …

  3. I see what you are doing here. Your contradicting points however greatly affect your credibility. Also you are not the only person on here with academic qualifications. I have a Masters of Science in Finance specializing in Economic Policy and I am a trained economic statistician. Please try harder next time and come with facts and substance and not opinions.

  4. A vote for DNA is a wasted vote, since many of them will not be getting back their deposits.

  5. Wasted vote ? Hmm then I will vote for a Crapo 🐸 before I give the tear gas Gassy and the gang of thieves a vote.

  6. I’d prefer to vote for a political naive UPP administration then a slick & tricky politically corrupt ABLP.
Gaston Browne and his pack of thieving wolves have shown us their true nature by being totally in the pocket of the New World Order. A vote for them is a vote for your own genocide and enslavement.

  7. Another paid mercenary this time by The DNA to try to discredit Harold Lovell and to discourage voters not to vote for the UPP in the next general elections. It ain’t gonna happen bro, the horse has already bolted. Talking about any vote for UPP is going to waste, my friend you are wasting your time to try to convince the electorate not to vote for the UPP. The mass of the people have suffered long enough under the present government and have already made up their minds to vote UPP, the right choice and the only choice. If you want to know what someone will be like just examine thier past. The UPP for ten years have proven their worth. Just look at what UPP achieved in ten years, to be exact eight years had it not been for the boundary case in the High Court which crippled the UPP government for almost two years. To begin:-
    1. Social programs which are still running up to today such as school meals, school uniform grant, food voucher program, A.P.U.A. Petro Caribe utility subsidy program, Senior citizen over 80 A.P.U.A benefit program, Construct Antigua & Barbuda Initiative, the GATE program, free internet in each community branch office, free internet buses to serve communities that do not have internet and in schools, One thousand working laptops given to teachers for free, two raises in salaries for all public servants, two raises in all government pensioners and Social Security pensioners, maintaining the price of fuel affordable to all during the world crisis, maintaining a constant supply of potable water to homes, building water storage facilities, reducing the cost of basket of goods in the supermarkets.
    2. Infrastructure such as the new Airport terminal, the Five Islands School, the ADOMS building, the new Treasury building, the new Car Park, the new Public Library, Sir Viv Richards Stadium, the Archve building, the refurbished Bencorp building which hosts the A.P.U.A, the Bau Panel housing project which was halted by the ABLP when they became the government in 2014, the North Sound housing project, the completion of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, the Cancer Centre, the new Parliament building, the Knuckle Block Gray’s Farm Community Centre which the ABLP hoffed. The UPP government was instrumental in bringing big projects here such hotels like Sandals, Tamarind Hills, Hermitage, Sugar Ridge, Verandah, Cocos Hotel and many more hotels too numerous to mention plus other smaller locally owned hotels.
    3. Agriculture. The UPP was instrumental in implementing the distribution of seedlings and fertilizers for free to all farmers and back yard gardeners. They were also responsible for the annual mango and pineapple and seafood fest in Christian Valley and Urlinhgs Harbour. They were also responsible for assisting farmers to have their lands ploughed for free and also in assisting and encouraging livestock farmers to produce eggs locally and prohibit the importation of eggs to protect them, the UPP also built the new Abbatoire at North Sound.
    4. Health. The UPP was also responsible for constructing the Satellite Medical Benefits Pharmacies in several communities. They were also responsible for the Cuban Eye Care Program in 2005. They were also responsible for Medical Benefits Scheme for securing $20,000,000.00 in the event that a pandemic or natural disaster nay hit this country which the ABLP hoffed as soon as they became government.
Compare my brother all these achievements by the UPP to the ABLP. With UPP, it’s people first, with ABLP, it’s politicians first. So my brother think again when making the statement that any vote for UPP is going to waste. Out of order!!!!
