Packed day of activities for V.C. Bird Day

4

Antigua and Barbuda will take the day off today to reflect on the life and teachings of founding father and national hero Sir Vere Cornwall Bird.

The annual public holiday will celebrate what would have been Bird’s 112th birthday.

A prayer service will take place at the V.C. Bird Bust at Market Square in Saint John’s from 9 am.

Lionel Hurst, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Prime Minister, invited all citizens to come out and celebrate Antigua and Barbuda’s “greatest citizen”.

Following the prayer service, action will then go to the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium for a cricket match between the West Indies Women and England Women.

Also taking place at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is ‘Taste of Wadadli’.

This event will display the very best of Antigua and Barbuda’s food, culture and entertainment starting at 11 am.

These events are free to the public.

  1. Big V. C. Bird Day and no water to take a shower!! I have to celebrate the day by washing my skin in a bucket – in 2022. We spending hundreds of millions of dollars on RO plants; commissioning RO plants; but no water to wash our skin. Not a drop ow water since Monday. Unfortunately, that is our reality.
…and that’s the legacy of VC Bird

  2. I give VC credit for one thing only, buying the syndicate lands for the Antiguan people. The same lands that Gaston and his bunch of vampires are using to enrich themselves. For VC alone there would be no social security because he did not make public servants contributions and raided the fund for the private contributions. VC did not have a secondary school or tertiary education, yet he is praised by some to be a great leader. I think his greatest legacy is that his descendants believe he willed Antigua to them and only them should rule Antigua. We need to do like other Caribbean countries and get from under the yoke of these people and elect a new breed of people to govern Antigua.
Get rid of them labour vampires. Just sucking the nation dry. The Birds, the Marshalls, the Hursts, the Christians, who else? The Antiguan monarchy.
