Over 500K bottles collected as plastic free initiative winds up

4

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and the Environment wishes to inform all participants of the Bottle Recycling Pilot Program that the initiative ended on November 20th, 2021.

All bottles deposited on that day will be accepted once they qualify for the 20 cents.

Additionally, once the pilot program for collection has closed participants will have up to Friday 17th December to cash out payments made in their voucher booklets.

In relation to the National Bottle-to Bottle Scheme this will be implemented in the following year, 2022.

Therefore, an appeal is being made for individuals to keep storing plastics bottles as an opportunity for upscaling is possible next year.

Don’t forget to get the children involved, make recycling a family affair.

To this end, the Ministry is grateful for all who have participated in the program to make it a success and more importantly playing a role in environmental stewardship. Moreover, the data gathered will aid in the implementation of the national policy.

  1. I’m confused.
This was a great idea and from the plastic collected, many citizens bought in as the reward was worth it.
Seems it was a one-off initiative that the Ministry of Health & Environment is unable to sustain as presumably the initial foreign funding has run out?

How can you expect people’s behaviour to change-for-good, as long life habits, if these projects are one-off wonders?

Surely there is a long term progressive environmental plan for every aspect of the country including how citizens & residents can contribute through their long-term behaviours.

Let’s not waste resources, human energy, and excitement on projects that we cannot sustain.

    • Why can’t AUA get their own recycling bin???? A ebbryting de government muss do? Better yet, why don’t you donate one Steve?
