Eight girls and two boys will compete this evening for the coveted title of “Optimist Petit” at the UWI Open Campus on Factory Road at 7 pm.

Optimist President Alison Charles said of the event that, “Yes, this is our biggest event.”

“It showcases what we have done with the delegates for the past two and a half months. They have gone to public speaking sessions, water safety, fire safety sessions and the countless training sessions to prepare them for the big night.”

The ten children will be judged on three sections: Personality and aspiration; Performing Talent; and an interview segment.

“For most,” Charles continued, “It is a stepping stone for them, because, from here, they would move on to other pageants to include the Teenage Pageant. So we always look forward to seeing our delegates move forward and it is heartwarming, for us, when we see them because we would have had a hand in helping them get there.”

Last year’s winner Keira Faracho is also excited for this year’s delegates.

“They’re all nice,” Faracho said of the delegates.

“I told them what I did last year and all of them said what they would do this year.”

The ABI Insurance Optimist Petit Show provides an avenue for boys and girls between 9 -11 years old to showcase their talent and develop their public speaking skills.
