A public demonstration is set to take place on Monday, February 24, in front of the Prime Minister’s Office on Queen Elizabeth Highway, as concerned citizens and business owners unite to oppose a proposed 40% tax increase.

The protest, organized under the slogan “Transparency First, Taxes Second,” calls for greater government accountability before implementing significant tax hikes.

Organizers argue that the tax increase will place an undue burden on families and businesses, driving up the cost of living without sufficient transparency in how funds are allocated.

The planned picket, scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM, aims to send a strong message that economic policies should prioritize affordability and fairness.

Protest materials circulating on social media describe the tax hike as “brazen highway robbery,” urging residents to take a stand before the financial strain worsens.

Symbols of resistance, including raised fists and national flags, accompany calls for action, reinforcing the protest’s theme of unity and defiance.

With growing concerns over economic strain, protesters are urging the government to reconsider the policy and provide clear justifications for the proposed increase. Whether the demonstration will prompt government officials to engage with the protestors remains to be seen.

  1. In response to the cheap political stunt hastily arranged by the Little Black Boy et al some day next week, I HAVE DECIDED TO FULLY SUPPORT MY PM AND WILLINGLY PAY FOR the proposed annual increase in vehicular registration fees.
I WILL PAY MY 40% before I respond favorably to any slimy spittle coming from the filthy, desperate mouths of the useless, irrelevant, lying Ugly People’s
    Pantry (UPP) members.

  2. Lrt me try again since you decided NOT to print my comment.
In light 9f the cheap political stunt being organized my that stupid “Little Black Boy”, I have decided to FULLY SUPPORT my government’s plans to increase vehicle registration fees for the purposes stated by themi will not allow myself to be manipulated by the slimy spittle coming from the filthy mouths of these useless, desperate, lying Ugly People’s Pantry (UPP) followers! Ah me say so. Now print um!

  3. What am I missing here? Grants were given to fix roads and loans were obtained to fix roads. How’s the money from transport board spent? Ko new taxes without accountability. This administration is wicked and heartless. It’s time for them to go. We had enough of the broken promises. You have had 11 years and nothing to show but bad governance.

  4. Who is this Gisele Isaac Puppet trying to fool? The PM has already pledged to make adjustments after having direct engagement with the public on Facebook, radio etc. The man’s accessibility is frankly something to marvel at. Gaston really nah fraid. Anyone can share their view and get a response. Leadership Matters.

Does he (Pringle) even know what he is picketing right now? Did someone send him the memo on where things stand? I can certainly understand the desperation. After the St Peter embarrassment and multiple failed events, the dying cannibalistic UPP needs something – anything for “noticement” right now.

They were hoping and praying that the PM would be inflexible. He is no Gisele Isaac – the best example of Hitler/Dictatorship in Antigua today.

Gaston Browne means well in wanting to rapidly transform the road situation and, as a result, has the humility and pragmatism to make adjustments to ensure that the greatest good can come in a way the public supports, with the lowest impact on those with the lowest income.

I also like that (unsurprisingly) there will be high accountability on the delivery of quality roads, supervised by the lenders. The money will be distributed in tranches contingent on performance, so there is no latitude underperformance. I look forward to the outcome of the next Cabinet meeting.

  5. This is just why slavery lasted for hundreds of years. I think that a starfish would be just a little bit smart if it were given the brain of anyone of these people who are embarrassing Antiguans. It’s no wonder why our students are struggling to catch up with their Caricom counterparts regarding the CXC results. Can you imagine a ‘FAITHFUL TO IGNORANCE’ raising children?

  6. D.GISEL ISAAC and PRINGLE are seeking relevance. Both of you hide you DAMN face. Hope Miss. Knight from the night show will join you Guys.

According to Joan remind KNIGHT to wear His DRAAZ.
