Opposition leader demands accountability over a promise to install over 750 street lights

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has raised serious concerns over the unfulfilled promise of street lights, demanding accountability from the government during his recent address at the Peoples Parliament.

Pringle’s remarks specifically targeted the announced installation of 750 street lights along Friars Hill Road and other highways after a tragic incident involving AUA students.

In his impassioned speech, Pringle questioned the sincerity of the government’s commitment, stating, “After the tragedy involving the AA students on that road, the cabinet announced that the APUA would install 750 street lights to illuminate the Friars Hill Road and other highways.”

However, Pringle expressed skepticism about the implementation of this initiative, challenging the government to provide evidence of the installed lights.

“Madam Speaker, can you show me where these lights were installed? I’m not sure if you drive on the airport road, but I know it wasn’t there. I know it wasn’t Valley Road that I usually take to go to the South, and I know for certain it’s not in All Saints East and St. Luke,” Pringle questioned.

The opposition leader’s focus on the promised street lights sheds light on the disconnect between official announcements and the reality on the ground.

He highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability, especially in matters concerning public safety and infrastructure.

Pringle’s comments may resonate with the concerns of local taxpayers and commuters who continue to experience challenges due to inadequate lighting on key roadways.

The opposition leader’s call for evidence regarding the installation of the street lights is expected to put pressure on the government to address the discrepancy and ensure that promises made are promises kept.
