Source- Real News Antigua: Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle is not convinced that the new carrier LIAT 2020 is more than a pie-in-the-sky promise.
The Gaston Browne Administration has announced that it will be partnering with the Nigerian airline Air Peace to establish the operations of a successor to LIAT.
The Nigerian airline is expected to hold a 70 percent stake in the new carrier.
However, Pringle says that information about this joint venture between Air Peace and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has been lacking.
Accordingly, the Opposition – like the public – is waiting to learn the details of the agreement and how LIAT’s operations will be taken over.
According to Prime Minister Gaston Browne, other Caribbean islands have expressed an interest in being a part of this new airline, similar to their arrangements with LIAT (1974) Ltd.
How this will work, and how the remaining 30 percent in shares would be divided, remains unclear, however. Hence, Pringle believes that this purported interest in the new LIAT 2020 is just “talk.”

The PM toured planes in China this week, made by the Chinese. He said in an interview in China that he hopes to have a few of those planes in Antigua soon.. Maybe those are intended for his new airline.
I believe in the new Airline plan as much as I believed in the almost three dozen hotel and other investment plansthat were announced ,with some even breaking grounds.
Good comment by Pringle. If you own 70 percent of a company the responsibility is yours to get it up an running. So Mr. Brown is just fooling because he knows full well that Air Peace just wants money from us, but it looks as if the other islands are not taking the 70 million dollar bait

Of course it’s another pie in the sky project, just like the thirty-odd other failed ones! And JP (must be for Johnpeepe) calls Pringle a dunce. The biggest dunce and scourge is the clown controlling our finances for the past 10 years. No a lot going on by way of fruition, but that doesn’t stop him from announcing projects.
Less we forget, Antigua Airways , now defunct, was another BIG project. It only landed us in human trafficking, illegal entries and our country becoming a transshipment point with blood on our hands. But, these jokers simply take note responsibility for ANYTHING, when to any rational mind, they are the root cause. What a bunch of jokers!

We must not only pick the ‘low-hanging fruit’ but also ‘shake the tree’!
Reflect quickly on this one important matter: The critical issue of LIAT 1974 and the ongoing discussions of LIAT 2020 centrally involve the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), a major creditor of LIAT 1974.
CDB prepared a ‘financial report with recommendations’ that is in the hands of the LIAT 1974 shareholders and OECS members.
Do we have access to the report or even know what is in the report?
