J Truth: Pitbull or Shih Tzu?

Dear Editor,

Last night, I lost two hours of sleep because a colleague insisted that we watch the live interview between a man known as J’Truth and Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Gaston Browne. Initially, I declined, but I eventually relented after her persistence.

Needless to say, nothing surprised me. About 1,600 people tuned in on Facebook, expecting J’Truth to confront Gaston with the same vigor he displayed when the Prime Minister wasn’t present. I don’t think much context is needed, but I’ll provide some.

For the past four years, this so-called influencer has led a campaign to rally the public against the Gaston Browne administration. What began as an anti-vaccination stance quickly evolved into an anti-ABLP campaign that peaked before the last general election. J’Truth called the Prime Minister every name imaginable, targeting even his family, including his children and his mother, who suffered from mental illness. Gaston, being the resilient fighter that he is, never hesitated to respond.

That’s why I fully supported Gaston’s decision to appear on the Facebook live stream. It showed that the Prime Minister wasn’t intimidated and seized the chance to reach the audience that had been drawn to J’Truth’s rhetoric.

The interview, however, lacked the fireworks some had anticipated. It began with J’Truth relinquishing control to Browne, an amateur misstep that his “platinum sponsor” apparently hadn’t prepared him for.

The Prime Minister capitalized on this, speaking for 45 minutes uninterrupted, leading some in the comments to liken it to the “Browne and Browne show.”

Relaxed and articulate, Browne highlighted his government’s achievements, while J’Truth mostly listened, occasionally nodding in agreement.

When J’Truth did manage to ask a few questions, they were on outdated issues the Prime Minister had already addressed, such as roads, crime prevention, and vaccine mandates. Having mastered media engagement over the past decade, Browne adeptly shaped the narrative to ensure coverage.

Meanwhile, J’Truth, not the sharpest tool in the shed, read questions that someone else had clearly prepared for him – the delivery didn’t match his usual speaking style or self-expression.

In the end, the leader of Antigua and Barbuda emerged from the interview looking strong. Hats off to the PM.

I was unsurprised by the lack of explosive moments; I knew that the internet bully would have to humble himself in the Prime Minister’s presence. But I’m left wondering – why didn’t J’Truth call the PM the names he has thrown at him over the past four years?

He reminded me of a dog that barks safely behind a fence but retreats as soon as the gate opens.

J’Truth has proven himself a coward before – like when he took the Johnson and Johnson vaccine despite previously warning thousands of followers about its dangers.

He’s all bark, no bite. Even the PM remarked on his softened stance, observing that the “charity case” seemed more independent.

But I disagree. It’s not that J’Truth is becoming independent; he’s simply an opportunist. He has no loyalty, principles, or convictions – just a willingness to serve anyone who pays him. He realizes the UPP, which he claims to support, is fading, while the ABLP seems poised for at least two more terms.

With five children, J’Truth has no choice but to curry favor with PM Browne, hoping for financial opportunities. In short, J’Truth isn’t a bulldog; he’s a Shih Tzu.

  2. The world is full of social media bullies. When they come up against a genuine human they loose their bravado and whatever internet courage they have.
    This apparently what has happened to this person.

There is always someone willing to put a different spin to things I thought the interview was good and I would credit both the Prime Minister and JTruth for pulling it off despite their past harsh relationship. My only real concern was the extended answers that were given by the PM, much like those that we would see and hear on Pointe FM. I would have liked to have seen greater control over the interview with shorter answers and a lot more impactful questions. But it was a great effort by JTruth and the Prime Minister. One thing about PM BROWNE. He is never afraid of what most would deem enemy territory.

  5. he lied about taking the vaccine, they said he paid 1000 ecd for a fake card using his donations and he isn’t no Shih Tzu, he’s more like a “Dog’s Shit In Dew” – a big stinking piece of shit in high grass sitting in the night dew, so careful how you step 💩

    He was outclassed! Gaston effortlessly put a muzzle on that dog without catching a flea.
    Outmatched!
    J’Truth takes advantage of the underdogs in society who cannot think for themselves but as the author said, J’Truth himself has no convictions!

    The licky, licky and nyamy, nyamy like J’Truth would have gotten along well with the likes of Asot.
    J’Truth talks a good game against a certain community but knowing this man is a licky, licky, I understand why he and Asot were good bedfellows.

  14. He was very CALM COOL, COLLECTED and seemed to be IN AWE of the Prime Minister. Lots of things the PM expounded on went over his head especially the financial jargon. Goes to show that cussing badwud and begging Ca$hApp can’t buy class or sense.

    “Empty vessels make the most noise”. He done admit to working obeah on Tanny and taking credit for the obeah working when Tanny got sick just before his passing.

Our PM is fearless and will go to hell to face any devil or demon for his Country and to let truth be told the host I would say was anxious , timid and no doubt apprensive when he herd him coming through the door he is a light weight in his presence was there any capacity and ability seen in the host after the interview that’s for the PM to say but I will give him a 5 out of 10 he is an amateur apart from his usual streams with bad use of language and expletives full of diatribe he was respectful and humors and try to be confrontational but in s good way but I see lots of potential if he can be more opened a scholarship at UW in Political Science with a good mentorship can really dust off the arrogance and ignorance that he gravitate to on a daily basis but potential and capacity is there and our PM loves to create opportunities for young men like Jtruth Mr PM help him give him an internship position at ABS and the Ministries as he loves public relations to get the best out of him because you leaves no one with talent behind

    Once the PM started going in on the economy and growth, you could tell J’Truth was lost.

    Truth secures financial stability and the PM got the opportunity to reach an audience that is adversity him.

  28. Birds of a feather? J’ Truth’s performance last night was fully on par with the of his guest when he hosted the front men of PLH,YIDA, Marvelous Mike and the others. He’s all Trump and Bravado on his Radio Station and only a whimp could acquiesce to all the demands of these interlopers. J’Truth lost nothing from that engagement but we relinquished even our sovereignty through Gaston. I suppose that he’s intimidated by folks who are white and rich.

  29. It’s rather interesting that you speak about loyalty when the same political party he is supposed to be loyal to as you are implying gave the job to stream convention to some unqualified person who did a shoddy job in my opinion
