Prime Minister Gaston Browne
Office of the Prime Minister
St. John’s, Antigua

Dear Prime Minister Browne,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my support for your recent statements advocating for engagement with Haitian gang leaders, particularly Barbecue, to facilitate peace efforts in Haiti.

Your stance on addressing the root causes of violence and instability in the region is commendable, and I believe that direct dialogue with key stakeholders like Barbecue can contribute significantly to finding sustainable solutions.

The escalating violence and challenges faced by Haiti require a multifaceted approach, and engaging with influential figures within the community, including those associated with gangs, is a crucial step towards fostering peace and stability.

Your emphasis on understanding the mechanisms behind the proliferation of firearms in Haiti and questioning the role of external actors, such as the United States’ arms supply, highlights the complexity of the situation and the need for international cooperation in addressing these issues.

I urge you to consider personally visiting Haiti to meet with Barbecue and other relevant parties involved in peace-building efforts.

Your direct engagement and leadership in this regard would not only demonstrate Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to regional stability but also provide an opportunity to explore avenues for constructive dialogue and collaboration towards a peaceful resolution.

Furthermore, I share your concerns about the impact of firearms trafficking on the Caribbean region and the role of the gun lobby in perpetuating violence. Your advocacy for addressing these challenges at both the national and international levels is crucial in fostering a safer and more secure environment for all.

Given the urgency of the situation in Haiti, I strongly urge you to consider staying in Haiti after your visit to continue working on peace initiatives and to demonstrate unwavering support for the Haitian people.

Your prolonged presence and ongoing engagement would send a powerful message of solidarity and commitment to lasting peace in the region.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I look forward to hearing about further developments and initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in Haiti and the wider Caribbean community.

Sincerely, Regionalist

  1. I fully support the writer’s view lol. He can find solution for Haiti but not Antigua.

    As stated by the writer,
“Given the urgency of the situation in Haiti, I strongly urge you to consider staying in Haiti after your visit to continue working on peace initiatives and to demonstrate unwavering support for the Haitian people.”

Please do Antiguans and Barbudans a favour and stay in Haiti.

  2. I second and third the writer I really think he should meet with barbecue and he don’t even have to come back.

  3. The cynical way in which some of us think about our Haitian brothers and sisters is shameful and indicative of our ignorance of our history and African origins. So we can be very flippant about our leader’s sentiments. Absolutely shameful. We can and should do better.

    • You probably have the enviable ability to suppress whichever of your senses you choose; in this case, your hearing. Ask the Barbudans, the Opposition members and your colleagues on your favourite radio, who seem to regurgitate his phlegm. He hasn’t gotten anything yet so you should keep your worries for that time. Maybe he should go to Haiti and with the promise of asylum in Antigua, instruct Barbecue to incinerate the abandoned properties so the HE can acquire the lands and show the Haitians how we flip lands here.

    • You are the shameful one. You arrive here as an immigrant and make yourself a despised tool of the ABLP.
It is people like you which causes Antiguans and Barbudans to resent our Caribbean brothers and sisters.
You come here and quickly lay down with the corrupt Dogs rather than working towards a more just society.

  4. Poor Haiti and other countries who were destroyed by sanctions because they stand up for their rights. The oppressors has labeled a revolutionist a gangster and poor us like fools going along with it. Anyways that how they keep people order control by using their media to spread false information.

  5. We should allow our caricom brothers to seek refuge in Antigua and start a new life. As the rest of the world is taking it’s share of refugees so should we, in order to keep in line with the UN agenda 2030 🌎
