Only 3 compactor trucks are working. Garbage piles up in communities

CABINET NOTES:

The Cabinet invited the new Chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and the Acting Manager to report on the successes and failures of the statutory body, especially so the failure to collect garbage from several rural communities.

It was explained that the number of NSWMA trucks has been reduced to three working compactor trucks from a total of eight.

However, the mechanics were able to cannibalize the non-working trucks and to put two additional trucks back on the road.

The two officials from NSWMA also explained that there are operators/owners of trucks that were over-represented; their numbers are being brought in line to fit the norm.

The officials were empowered by Cabinet to begin the process of reducing the number of trucks by which several owners/operators exceed the reasonable number.

Small and individual truck owners will then be able to receive reasonable payments each week.

  1. I agree that garbage is piling up but the pic of the garbage is not Antigua. Look closley. This is the great America that we Antiguans love so much.

  2. Putting this for local only. As someone with a contract I’d go all like 2 months or more without pay and when you do get pay it’s maybe a 4 days payment you’d get at best one proper week.

Truck maintenance is a thing, workers needs to be paid as well if like me where that’s the primary income and a small man cause let’s be honest, they make sure the large Corps get paid and the Syrian truck owners.

But I digress, if no money passing for weeks on ends Truck gotta park can’t work without diesel and workers won’t work without being paid.

The whole system need to be sort out and the favorism need to end as well.

    • Sorry to hear about your situation @ Salted Peanut, what a awful state of affairs. I hope and pray that the Prime Minister or any of the members of cabinet are reading this.

This is a direct result of 13 years of neglect and overall 40 years of Birdism and Browneism. Shocking!

  3. PEOPLE OF ANTIGUA,BRING YOUR TRASH AND DUMP IT AT THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH.THEN YOU WOULD SEE HOW FAST THINGS GET CLEANED UP IN THE COMMUNITIES.THIS CRAP HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR TOO LONG NOW.IT IS TIME WE THE PEOPLE MAKE AND TAKE A STAND. NO MORE DAMN TALKING.

  4. 10 different trucks to pick up 1 DEAD DARG? ?? Mercy all de money gone towards the politician MASKIZ
    CA-CAPA-TI-TAH.

When you campaign manager is the manager as well…..
DEAD DARG picking up is the new John Ashe???

  5. Non nationals are involved in all aspect of Antigua businesses. From construction, restaurants, stores and shops. Now even garbage collection. I guess what is left for Antiguans to do is steal. Because even when Antiguans work they can’t get paid. This is Gaston’s empowerment for Antiguans.
