One year after contestants participated in the Miss Antigua & Barbuda Pageant they have not been paid the monies owed to them.

One contestant who went public with her disappointment Rohanna Smith says since her recent Facebook post no word has been forthcoming from the Festivals Commission.

She said on social media that their silence over the last year does not mean the girls are satisfied with the non-payment.

Smith said the former contestants have been rallying privately for their monies to be paid but that has not worked.

“With everything I’ve been through entering Miss Antigua Barbuda, having it dragged on for this long is crazy!” Smith wrote.

She said it is no defence that others have been waiting much longer than her “because quite frankly those people are quite comfortable.”

Preparations are in high gear for another Miss Antigua Barbuda Pageant next month.

The festivals commission says it owes over 7 million dollars to past carnival service providers.

  1. Why do people even bother to take part in these things when this is always the norm. Everyone should just boycott carnival.

    • For real boycott the dam carnival and them know know no money deh but in order to participate them decide to raise soca monarchs prize money and just to make it sound good BRUK them BRUK BRUK

  2. Almost a year and still haven’t been paid, that is a shame. It seems that this annually event is not making any profit to pay it participants. The government has been pumping money annually into this event and not enough revenue generating.
Every year Barbados has an annual Gospel Fest that runs for a week. Gospel artists from all around the Caribbean including international artists participate, so why not Antigua & Barbuda introduce such event to make up where carnival shortfall in revenue making.

  3. I’d just call it a loss and not provide for carnival on concession you are losing if you aren’t paid anyways or asked to take a lesser amount

  4. they having problems to pay people monies owed over so many years….yet still they came up with the brilliant idea to increase the prize money for some of these events? …. 0k

  5. Wonder does the festival office does with all that money that I pumps every year into Carnival.

  6. Where were you people when government was paying Movado , Akan and Wyclef hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Only foreigners get good treatment in Antigua with ALP Marshall Montana will be getting nearly a quarter million dollars for one night for him and his crew so ayu rasa better go up deh and demand you get pay before he.

We had 3 free concerts over the last year and I’m sure some of you attended and fulljoyed yourselves, why not ask for your money then?

ALP – Trust and don’t pay back

The IMF got paid though and they didn’t have to ask for their money.

    • Oh please this has been going on for YEARS,. During the UPP and ALP time. Carnival organizers always owe for years. This is nothing new. These news media seem so deaprate for headlines and of course they enjoy the normal trolls who just want rant and rave about the governament.
