Positive blood test result for the new rapidly spreading Coronavirus, originating in Wuhan, China

The most recent results received by the Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) revealed one additional case of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 in Antigua and Barbuda.

This means that the total number of persons with laboratory confirmation of the disease in Antigua and Barbuda has increased to 25.

Of the 15 samples sent to CARPHA last Wednesday, 14 samples were negative and one was positive.

There were no repeat tests. This means that the number of persons who previously tested positive for COVID-19, have been retested and are now negative remains at 15.

Today, May 1 2020, 12 additional samples were sent to CARPHA. This bring the total number of samples
sent to CARPHA for this week to 38. In keeping with its aim of increasing testing, the Ministry intends to
send at least 50 samples to CARPHA weekly. This is possible with additional supplies from the OECS Secretariat and Barbados.

The Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment thanks the public for cooperating with the measures associated with the State of Emergency. These measures along with social distancing, proper cough and sneeze etiquette, hand washing and sanitizing are crucial in our nation’s fight against COVID19.

    • Yes, its the 6 year old child of the family in quarantine. Hence this is not a situation where the person who spread it is unknown

  1. Was the confirmed case community spread. Please tell us,we have a right to know.Because I know that both the Airport and Seaports are closed to human traffic.Only Cargo vessels are coming into the country.Am I right in saying that?

    • No its not since the person who infected the child (6 year old) is known and also in quarantine

  2. From the article: “In keeping with its aim of increasing testing, the Ministry intends to
send at least 50 samples to CARPHA weekly.”

At that rate, everyone on the island will be tested in about 37 years. Anyone see a problem with this?

  3. Let us protect ourselves by constantly wearing mask, washing our hands and practicing social distancing. I can no longer depend on the government for information, so at this moment I am assuming community spreading is happening.

I thought we could only send a maximum of 20 tests per week to CARPHA. Has that changed? If so, what is the new quota?

It’s becoming more and more difficult to believe anything coming out of the Ministry of Health – too many conflicting stories!!

  5. Who are you guys testing? Cause I don’t hear no announcements to line up somewhere to give blood samples for testing. They don’t want to tell us whether it’s community spread or not cause they wanna open the country seaport and airport later this month
