Old Road Primary School commissions solar PV system

The Old Road Primary School is the most recent institution to commission their solar PV system as part of the $825,000 grant-funded Grid Interactive Solar PV Systems project. This project equips schools and clinic around the country with solar PV systems.

Darren Gibbs installed 8KW Solar PV System. Twenty – four Solar Panel panes were placed on one of the school’s main building blocks along with twelve battery systems which were installed in a small attached battery room.

In addition, the school’s surroundings has been enhanced by utilizing recycling materials such as drinking bottles, used tires and natural resources (plants and stones).

The installation of the solar panels now allows the regular school sessions to continue without interruptions in the event of power outage while school is in session. -Most importantly, in the event of a hurricane or severe storm and electricity is suppressed for a long period of time, the Old Road Primary School will be in a position to have students return to regular sessions sooner than schools which do not have solar panels in place.

The Grid Interactive Solar PV Systems is supported by the Government of Italy with implementation being carried out by the Department of Environment.
