(PRESS RELEASE)

After careful and further review we have uncovered that the recalled Chewy Chips Ahoy! Cookies is actually in Antigua and Barbuda and we are advising consumers not to eat this product.

The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division has referred the matter to the Central Board of Health within the Ministry of Health for their necessary action so that the product can be removed and discarded of.

Nabisco’s parent company Mondelez Global recall announcement referred to the cookies possibly having “an unexpected solidified ingredient.” It furthered stated that “in some instances, the cornstarch in our Chewy Chips Ahoy! recipe did not fully incorporate in the mixing procedure and solidified in the baking process.”

  1. Clearly a grave matter of concern because the original release noted that the product was NOT in Antigua. It was only when the product was identified and found in a popular local supermarket did the Prices and Consumer Affair’s changed it’s tune. This does not inspire great confidence in the division and I am calling for an investigation to be carried out to determine how a release was put out without careful and thorough checks first. Such mistakes can be detrimental to the wellbeing of the general public.

    • That department is nothing but a TOOTHLESS TIGER. Price Control does NOT do its job. You have a certain “elite” supermarket that suddenly jacked up its price of TJ Farms frozen fruit from $5 to $15.95 and this fulla shit department does nothing about it!!! No wonder people think they can get way wid murdah.

That whole department or division or whatever the heck they are needs to shape up or ship out. Perhaps the staff needs to be trained, but one thing is clear: they are INCOMPETENT!!!

Who da heck is in charge of this dead department? Said person is collecting a salary from taxpayers money but is GROSSLY INEPT!!

  2. Prices and Consumer affairs needs to stop taking up valuable office space in the downtown.
Merge them with some other entity, maybe bureau of standards and send most of everybody to do field work.
