  1. Congratulations on the publication of the Official List of Registered Architects in Antigua and Barbuda.
Hopefully this will lead to more discussion on our built environment; which is being destroyed by the deforestation of our hillsides with ugly MacMansion type concrete boxes.

    • Be careful…some of these ugly “MacMansion” and concrete boxes were designed by “Registered architects with university degrees and diplomas…

  2. Why is Malcolm Payne not a registered architect in Antigua… who are some of your favorite Architect and “Architectural designers” in Antigua 🇦🇬. Identify some Edifice in and around St. John that excite your architectural taste bugs…and who was the designer!
My top Architect is Mitchell Stuart…who is yours?
Since I’m not allowed the words Architect or Architectural whatever when referring to Malcolm Payne…his designs whether commercial or residential is breath taking…

  3. We need to resign houses with a more airy atmosphere so many square boxes we need better airflow to cool off the cinderblocks at night

  4. From what I see of buildings in Antigua these architects weren’t paying attention in class . 😂

    • Now they fighting with the Technicians and draftsman for simple 24×36 residential houses…when they are providing employment and development for draftsman who are intergal part of the profession..

  5. ……..very interesting…..let’s keep the conversation going…….don’t be afraid……question to the AIBA….Why is your voice /leadership/guidance so absent in relation to the planning and development of the built environment in Anu.?……This writer can hazard a guess…….but that would only be a guess…..

  6. @Bill ⁹J……..why should it be about not wanting to pay for “that type of design”?…..everyone should be entitled to design that satisfies one’s environmental and economic reality. In Anu – Bda “bad design” is in abundance…….

  7. @Maalum
No need to hazard a guess.
Policies and regulations that gives voice /leadership/guidance in relation to the planning and development of the built environment in Antigua are crafted abd controlled by politicians and Nepo babies.
This has been a long hard slug for men and women on this list.
It simply comes down to: How many among them are past or current numbers of Parliament.
Other than the Parliamentarians cars and their suits as their misguided standards of esthetics design and or culture; no need to guess why the island is being “ugly-fied”

    • Policies and regulations….leadership and guidance to planning and development may lack the voices and involvement of the COABIA…..But bad…ugly ..lack of imagination designs that schooled “registered ” Architects is quite a different matter which is the core of this discussion….in my humble politician and “Nepo babies” ….your words…..have little or no control over.
Just as the disability association force the U.N ratification policy on disability now you are seeing enforcement on buildings and parking lots etc…bad and ugly designs whether commercial or residential is just bad ugly designs.

  8. We all know that they are zoning laws…unless it’s not an inheritance, who can afford to buy and build a house in certain.
If need a small house with certain quality
..and I have budget it’s the Architect duty to let me if my needs can fit into my budget or how much would cost me to build my little house or my mansion…including his fees so I can make an informed decision.
The young Jenkins is the only Architect on record who had some educational programs as the role and functions of the profession and must be applauded …but need to a continuous relationship.
Architects seem to snub you if they think you don’t have money…and tend to force unwanted things on the home owner when money is not an option…even when a budget is given.
Does the COABIA has stipulations in regards to fee or each Architect determines his or her fees…knowing that they are different level of involvement…like supplying only the plans…doing construction documents…supervision etc…these should be known during the consultation stage…is there fee for consultation.
The design stage is the most interesting….Architect can now produce designs in all kind of view that home owners can appreciate…
But where our Architects are failing is in design solutions…why can’t they find solutions to cheap and affordable housing …there has to be…do we only have wood and concrete..if so how can we utilize them for affordable and mega wealthy at the same time…what type of materials are available out there…etc

Question: do you the Architectural fees charged by the registered architects are too exorbitant?
Notice all is staying of the Malcolm Payne issue…for those who don’t know him….the ACB FINANCIAL CENTER on high and temple Street is his design…do you think the COABIA is obligated to the public as to why such an iconic building designer cannot be registered?
    JUST ASKING!
