Officers Congratulate Rodney On Selection For Queen’s Award

The Rank and File of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda extends heartiest congratulations to Acting Commissioner of Police, Atlee Patrick Rodney on his recent appointment of the Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) in the Queen’s 2020 New Year’s Honors List.

Mr. Rodney was enlisted in the Royal Police Force in January 1982 and has distinguished himself as a model professional Police Officer both on the local scene and across the region for about 38 years.

He has worked in several areas of the Police Force to include the Special Service Unit, the Narcotics Squad, All Saints Police Station, Barbuda Police Station, The Criminal Investigations Department, The Police Training Academy as Chief Instructor and Staff Officer to the Office of Commissioner of Police.

In addition, he was one of first DARE officers, who taught Drugs and Violence Prevention in several primary schools. This experienced Police Officer also worked in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution and also a Prosecutor in the Magistrate Court.

On the regional level, Acting Commissioner Rodney was a member of the Caribbean Peace Keeping Team in Grenada in 1983-1984 after the assassination of former Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. As a member of the Regional Security System (RSS) and CDEMA Deployments, he was called upon to respond in the aftermath of several Disasters in the region to include; Hurricane Ivan in Grenada in 2004, Tropical Storm Erika in Dominica in 2015, Hurricane Irma in British Virgin Islands in 2017 and Hurricane Maria in Dominica 2017.

Mr. Rodney is also a regional Instructor and Facilitator and has conducted training courses in several Regional States on various aspects of Law Enforcement. The Police Force is proud of his accomplishments and wish him best regards and continued success in his career of Policing.

In his reaction to being appointed to QPM honors, Mr. Rodney said he was humbled but very happy for the recognition. He expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed to his achievement. He had high praises for his parents, siblings, wife, children, church family and all his supervisors over the years who contributed to his overall development into a competent and professional Police Officer. He used his accomplishment to encourage fellow officers to stay focus and to be committed to the profession and to be loyal to the Police Force.

The Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) is awarded to Police Officers in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations, for gallantry or distinguished services. It was first established on May 19th, 1954 and is awarded on an annual basis.
