Nurse accused of selling fake vaccine cards is defended by public-health official, who says scam did not originate with her

REAL NEWS: A woman from the Ottos area reportedly has been arrested for falsifying vaccination cards and selling them for a hefty sum; but a public-health official says the alleged scam did not start with her.

On Monday, REAL News learned that the woman, a young nurse, had been taken into custody after the Police got word that she was involved in the alleged fraud.

Reports say the woman, whose licence to practice nursing in this country has been revoked, was issuing the fake temporary yellow cards for a fee.

However, a public-health official says the nurse is “taking the rap” for a scam that did not begin with her.

He claims that the young woman only recently returned from studies and took up her duties, whereas Information Minister Melford Nicholas had revealed, several weeks ago, that the card system had been compromised.

This is why the Government transitioned to the permanent card, which carries a barcode and other fail-safe features, he says, adding that the Police need to investigate where the scheme began.

Another resident, meanwhile, asks who is responsible for issuing Prime Minister Gaston Browne a local vaccination card.

She says that transposing information from Browne’s CDC-issued card to an Antigua and Barbuda ID smacks of illegality, since he claims he was vaccinated by an American doctor with a drug that was not legal here, at the time.

“If that is not falsification, then I don’t know what is,” says the woman, who is an American citizen, herself.  “Why aren’t the Police looking into that, as well?” she asks.

    • The PM should be focused on as much as the nurse. He created all this with his big mouth-hungry money glutter about enriching yourself. The nurse saw an opportunity and took it. I am sure that the PM would have done the same. For example, Officer Ray John saw the passport selling opportunity and he took it. By the way, I don’t condone such behavior or practice. This is endangerment of people’s health status and life.

  5. I don’t agree with what she was alleged or accused of doing. However, If I was the nurse, I would have said that the PM said to enrich ourselves when an opportunity arises. So, that was what I was doing “Enriching Myself.” If it was a government official caught doing it, we will have never heard anything until they done earned thousands of dollars for selling fake vaccination cards.

  9. Vaccinated people are so paranoid. They actually took the vax but are still so afraid of the unvaccinated people who don’t even have the virus. Shouldn’t they be so protected and less fearful?

  13. Gaston Browne and his cabal mandating persons to be Vaccinated. Is he,Gaston Browne really Vaccinated? I am fully Vaccinated by taking 3 Moderna Doses,to include a Booster Dose. Selling of Vaccine Cards have been said by many in the USA,I have no proof of that. I do believe it has happened. Persons always find ways to manipulate the systems put into place anywhere,even in Antigua and Barbuda. I do hope in this instance it is well investigated. Those found to have committed crimes are arrested and charged to the letter of the Laws. Or would it end up like the alleged Customs Broker who supposedly forged the TAP DAWG SIGNATURE.
