Topic: Update on Little Creek Bridge
Date: Wednesday 31st March, 2021
The Bridge Design is currently in the final stages. Engineers with the Ministry of Works are actively reviewing the Design Proposal from C.O.Williams Construction Limited.
An in-depth Hydrology and Hydrologic analysis was actioned to ensure that the Proposed Culvert has the capacity to withstand a major Storm Event.
As such, the associated peak flows, inclusive of Climate Vulnerability Assessment measures were map from the major and minor Catchment area: The said Peak Flow which the Culvert is expected to evacuate was extensively assessed to reduce the likelihood of further damages to the Road in the affected area.
Emanating from this study the size of the Aperture was determined and Structural Designs were commissioned to support both the Traffic Loads and integrity of the structure. As indicated earlier this is currently being check for compliance with the relevant design standards and should be completed in short order.
Thereafter, the Construction Phase would commence in earnest by C.O.Williams Construction Limited. The duration of the works is eight (8) weeks from the date of commencement.
Given the prolonged delay the Ministry of Works will be requesting the use of a higher strength concrete so that we can achieve the required structural strengths in a shorter time which is anticipated to reduce the time needed for the Concrete to cure.
At this point the Ministry of Works will continue the maintenance of the by-pass as required for the duration of the Works.
