NOTICE: To Boggy Peak Landowners

RE: The Department of Environment is Looking to Speak to the Following Landowners

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has approved 1,039 hectares of forested land around Boggy Peak to be declared a Category II Protected Area under the Environmental Protection Management Act of 2019. The area will be managed to protect natural resources, regulate recreational activities and ensure development projects in the area are environmentally and culturally responsible.

This initiative falls under the Sustainable Pathways: Protected Areas and Renewable Energy (SPPARE) project, which aims to increase sustainable financing pathways for biodiversity protection, sustainable development and livelihoods through the installation of renewable energy and the establishment of a National Park.  The project also aims to increase the value of ecosystem goods in services through a wildfire prevention strategy and tree planting exercise.

Private lands that are included in the boundaries are critical to the protection of biodiversity, soil quality and watersheds in the area. If your name is listed below, you are currently registered as the landowner of a block and parcel that falls within the boundary of the proposed Boggy Peak National Park. If you know anyone listed, please forward the notice. Please contact the Department of Environment via email [email protected] or by telephone at 462-4625 to set up an in–person meeting.

  1. Oh we’re still undermining the Hon. Baldwin Spencer and his decision to rename the peak Mount Obama?

When and how did it officially become Boggy Peak?

ANR I hope you’re not inadvertently perpetuating the anti-Baldwin Spencer scheme.

  2. Is the land where the Antigua Black Pineapple field now located will be included within the boundary 1,039 hectares of forested land? I hope that they’re not saying one thing to get the land and then sold it to some middle eastern investor.
