ABAA Issues Reminder on Kite-Flying Restrictions Near VC Bird International Airport
The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) is reminding the public to refrain from kite-flying within the designated no-fly zone surrounding the VC Bird International Airport, particularly during the Easter season.
The authority highlights that kite-flying in restricted areas poses a serious risk to aircraft approaching or departing the airport. The no-fly zone includes areas such as Five Islands, parts of Cedar Grove, Piggotts, Osbourn, and other surrounding communities.
ABAA urges all residents and visitors to comply with these safety measures and thanks the public for their cooperation.

Now why would anyone think of flying a kite in the path of a Virgin Atlantic A330 or a British Airways Boeing 777?? Those aircraft types would not be affected by an average sized kite. The smaller prop planes like Cessna 208 Caravan, Britten Norman BN-2 Islander or possibly even a turbo prop ATR could be affected if a kite collides in the engine.
