GENERAL NOTICE FROM THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT

Subject: Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Day Holidays

The Labour Department wishes to inform the general public that in accordance with the “Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2019”, No 23 of 2019, Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays will be observed on December 27 and 28, 2021, respectively.

As such, December 25 and 26 will be treated as normal working days.

Further, New Years day will be celebrated on Saturday 1st January, 2022.

Therefore, Monday 3rd January, 2022 will be a regular working day:

Employers are reminded that employees who are scheduled to work on public holidays should be paid their regular wage in addition to an hourly rate of 150% of their basic rate per hour worked.

Please be guided accordingly.

  1. Thank you very much. This don’t make no kind of donkey sense. Don’t move Christmas day but just let the Monday and Tuesday a holiday also duhhh . Then by next week they will say they had so many cases on Christmas day and Boxing day. I give up on these reporters and leaders.

  2. Words matter. The communication should have been better. This bulletin mainly serves the purpose of calculating pay. Most people are off on the weekend anyway. Its tricky and you just cant please everybody.
