The bandwidth required for the fourth landed campus of the Univerity of the West Indies is far more than what is currently available in Antigua and Barbuda, officials have said.

Nine Information Technology officials drawn from the ABIIT, the Antigua State College, the Hospitality Training Institute, the Five Islands Campus of the University were invited to Cabinet to address the requirements of the UWI in the provision of bandwidth in order for the University to function.

The UWI requires 150 megabits per second in order to operate from the grounded multi-campus.

At the moment, bandwidth availability at the several campuses fall far below, ” according to Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst.

He said new cables, switches and other equipment are required in order to bring the campuses in-line with the UWI requirements.

“The Cabinet gave the assurance that all will be done to make the campuses compliant with the requirement. APUA and the Ministry of Information will begin the necessary collaboration in order to achieve the goal,” the Chief of Staff reported.

The varied curriculum specialties of the several campuses were discussed; the Cabinet agreed to add Public Health as a specialty that would increase the effectiveness of many health professionals seeking new knowledge.
