No pay for many Government workers

Two business days removed from last Friday’s scheduled payday, most government workers have yet to be paid for the month of September.

“This is the second time in the last three months,” said one non-established worker who wished to remain anonymous.

“There are clearly some challenges [the government is] facing and they are not telling us what is going on.”

Most established workers (those hired by the Public Service Commission) are said to have received their September paychecks, but the same does not hold true for those in the non-established sector.

When contacted, one government official said that the government, “Resources happen to be low at this time and all payouts could not be made last Friday.”

“The government,” the official went on, “Is working feverishly to make the remaining payments by tomorrow.”

  1. I understand there is a need for employment. But what’s the point with all these people on the job program and all the new hires etc. The wage bill is probably increased significantly in the past 7 months.

  2. People tap buy passport cause dem hear antigua soon broke and will be worse than jamaica in a couple years

  3. If they can’t pay salaries on time, how will they pay the long awaited back pay that was promised?
