No Disrespect Intended But The Swearing Of Allegiance To The King Is Ridiculous.

At the swearing in of members of the House Of Representatives and the Senate, members have to swear allegiance to the King of England and his heirs as part of their Oath.
Our Constitution says every member of Parliament must swear an oath or affirmation to the monarch and their heirs and successors before taking their seat.
This requirement is both archaic and ridiculous.
It does not represent the Antigua & Barbuda we live in and it’s further evidence of why we need to begin discussing becoming a republic with our own head of state. We are no longer British.
Those born overseas have to relinquish their first citizenship in order to comply with the section of the Constitution, which says anyone who is a citizen or entitled to the rights or privileges of a subject or citizen of a foreign power is incapable of sitting in our parliament.
Therefore our Members of Parliament should be pledging to serve the Antiguan and Barbudan people who elected them and not the British royal family.

Their labor produced the economic wealth and cultural benefits of our colonizers.
Our Centenarians survived by practicing the fundamental economic principle: “Eat a little, save a little, spend a little.”
And spiritually, they internalized hope of a better life, faith, through religion.
It’s time to change the colonial culture of their education model for elite management and unskilled labor linked to their economic model!

Think hard about this….our youths are leaving the Public Schools after 15 years of instructional education without knowledge and skills to earn a living and start a business.
Our education system MUST PRIORITIZE STEM – the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics – creative Arts + business/entrepreneurship/trade, Pre-K to Tertiary, in the curriculum of EVERY PUBLIC SCHOOL and INSTITUTION, year-round, in-school, extra-curricular programs (after school activities), summer. With this education, our youths will be equipped to unlock their creative genius to create, innovate, produce and distribute the goods and services we need for ourselves and others. That must happen to achieve our economic and social development.

@ writer, Incase u live under a rock it is part of the constitution until there is a referendum . That’s the whole point in having a governor General.! He represents the king. I am for reform but i still have reservations on moving away from privy concil and the likes because you will leave it in the hands of these corrupt governments. Checks and balances should still apply and until we have a government that can be transparent with its people I.e spending of money, I/we will continue to say God king the king!!
