Molwyn Joseph, the Minister of Health, said no person in Antigua & Barbuda had suffered any significant side effect from the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
“So far, there is no adverse reaction observed in over the 11,000 people we have vaccinated and thank God for that,” Joseph said on Pointe FM on Saturday.
The Minister said a process was set up to assess everyone’s risk when they go to a vaccination centre to be inoculated.
“Each person having registered has to go through a health check, a screening to be sure you don’t have any underlying issues that will prevent you from vaccinating without having any risks associate with the event,” Joseph explained.
After the injection is administered, “you must stay at the site for at least 20 minutes for observation,” he said.
The Health Minister insisted, “We do not cut any of these procedures. We don’t take shortcuts, I should say, on these matters because we do not wish for anybody to have a reaction, and there is no doctor. So, at every site, there is at least one doctor.”
“It’s not just digging someone in their arm; give them a vaccination. No, we have to be sure it is done in a safe and secure manner so that the people will be protected,” he said.
