The government says that the Environment Divison has concluded that YIDA did not abuse the environment.
This follows a public complaint in a You-Tube video, charging that YIDA was despoiling the environment. Yida is a Chinese investment group currently investing in a special economic zone.
Cabinet says the video was examined by three government institutions: The Environmental Division, the Development Control Authority and the Fisheries Division. The Division’s report now goes to DCA and Fisheries.
Meantime, United Progressive Party politician George Wehner says the citizens and residents are having a challenge reconciling the following incongruous and diabolically spurious statement in the Cabinet report of Wednesday April 29, 2020, with the reality on the ground at the protected wetlands within North East Marine Management Area(NEMMA) in Antigua and Barbuda
Wehner said the statement by “the deluded administration is empirical evidence that we are living in a dictatorship. ”

When UPP was in power the minute Mrs. Black-Layne opened her mouth against Harold Lovell he removed her from as the Chief Environmental Officer and gave her some desk job in the back. Perhaps you forget the problems with Sandals building too close to the beach at Runaway causing them to lose their entire wall next to what was then known as Spinnaker Restaurant. Then you had the La Pearla development at Browns Bay where they damage so many mangroves to put the now hotel called Nonsuch Bay Hotel. During the UPP time the ED had no independence whatsoever. In fact everyone was afraid for their job under the UPP. But of course you guys think people already would have forgotten all those things. Not while I’m still here. I will call you all out each time

You can buy options and sell options. But you do net sell the actual goods. The man paid for the passports but that doesn’t mean that he got some empty passports without names in them. Whoever will qualify for the passport still has to go through the due diligence before he/she is issued a passport. The only thing is payment was made years ago in advance. So according to Environment and by extension Cabinet the person who took the video is a liar? All the people who have seen the massive destruction of the mangrove and the environment are all liars too? This questionable Chinese man, YIDA, who contributes absolutely nothing to the country except for destruction and hideous prefab buildings takes precedence over the credibility of reputable Antiguans. The promotional video put out by ABSEZ is IMO fraud. YIDA will never be able to create anything close Dubai standards and quality, and it is also IMO bordering on criminal to make misleading videos to hopefully trap an investor. It is unfortunate that the ministry had to take a stand that they have to know is wrong. At this rate, what’s next…sycophants propagandizing that China is not responsible for the virus?? Did not know that Antiguan passports were a commodity to be traded. I think you are trying to confuse people. You say that the PM never said he gave the man passports to sell and then in the other breath you say that the man paid for the passports. What was he suppose to do with the passports he paid for, hide them under his bed? Only a crooked government would sell blank passports. You did not answer Bugsy. What happened to the passports? Were any returned to the government? No wonder Canada introduced visa for Antiguans. They had to know who was coming Into their country with all kind of characters running around with Antiguan passports. Would not be surprised that the passports were sold but the treasury never received a cent.
