The Belmont family who last week appealed to the police to stop harassing them were all picked up this morning.

They were released moments ago after being in police custody since 5 a.m.

Among those who were in custody are Sharon Williams, four of her children and a grandchild and other relatives.

Two of the female children are under 14 years-old and the grandchild is under 10 years-old.

The majority of those detained have been released with the exception of one son.

A family member said they were all taken to the police headquarters for unknown reasons.

Last week, the police accused members of the family of lying in relation to the location of a relative being sought by them.

The family alleges that the police abused their authority when they conducted a search of the Belmont home, assaulted and even threatened to a relative.

An investigation is underway into the allegations.
