Information Minister Nicholas Advocates for Improved Working Conditions for ABS Staff during Budget Debate

Information Minister Melford Nicholas has been shedding light on the suboptimal working conditions faced by the staff at the Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Services (ABS).

Expressing his commitment to providing an optimal environment for those who contribute to public education efforts, Minister Nicholas outlined a plan to address the challenges faced by ABS.

However, he emphasized that the current location of ABS is an embarrassment and falls short of acceptable standards for a public service institution.

During his statement, Minister Nicholas referenced an announcement by the Minister of Public Works regarding the acceleration of facilities in the upstairs of the Caribbean Cinemas.

While welcoming this development, Minister Nicholas stressed the need to go further in addressing the long-standing issue of ABS’s working environment.

“I want to go further, Mr. Speaker,” Minister Nicholas declared, “Part of what we are suffering from is contending objectives.”

He went on to announce that the northern wing of the Sunshine Car Park Hub has already been allocated to ABS for the purpose of establishing a permanent home.

Minister Nicholas expressed his intention to collaborate with the Minister of Public Works in the new year to expedite the process.

“While we accept the relocation as an immediate step,” Minister Nicholas stated, “I would want to go further and implement the whole question of getting us into a permanent home.”

He informed the assembly that technical drawings are awaited and will be turned over to Public Works to facilitate the completion of the project.

  1. Take a look at most of the government owned buildings. Most of them are in a poor condition not suitable for work. The government clinics are horrible and yet they expect the nurses to carry out their duties like everything is ok when everything is falling apart… time for a change in the clinics also..how much is closed for repair soon the rest will start to fall apart and you all want the burden from the hospital when most of the clinics are in shambles.
