The Cabinet has approved a proposal to construct a new building for the storage of criminal evidence.
Loss of evidence has become a problem in solving cases at the court, the Cabinet was told at a recent meeting
Lawmen reported that dampness, rodents and the passage of time have caused some evidence, stored in the Police Evidence Room at the Newgate Street Police Station, to become unusable.
A proposal was put forward to build a 12,000 square-foot, two-storied building on vacant land at the Police Headquarters, where all evidence could then be stored. It was accepted.
The government says a temporary space will be sought in the meantime to allow for the security of the accumulated evidence.
Meantime, a computer system that allows for the electronic storage of fingerprints for sharing with other police agencies and for quickly identifying criminals—has been inoperable for several months.
$30,000 was authorized to the operators, in order to get the system working again.

A very good suggestion. I hope that this new storage building structure will be well kept up in maintenance. Constructing a new building and NOT maintaining it can lead back to the same problem like the previous building.
For the fingerprinting electronic equipment, the program software should have been updated frequently. Large operation normally updated their software program very 5 years or less. Also, I strongly recommended that these sensitive nature of data to be backup after each shift daily and storage on an external hard drive or to a network server.
