PM says opposition not doing their job

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has taken issue with the parliamentary opposition for not doing their job.

Speaking in parliament today Browne referred to the CIP review board for which he said the main opposition United Progressive Party never recommended a nominee.

“And I want to remind members of the opposition that they are part of the governance of this country,” Browne told debate in the Lower House today.

“And when we carve out a space for them to participate in the governance of the country to ensure the integrity of certain operations of certain processes and certain institutions within the government, we expect them to participate,” the prime minister said.

“In fact, I don’t think the opposition should have an option not to participate,” he added.

Browne said the involvement of the opposition is in an attempt to ensure that there is transparency.

He expressed the wish that the opposition will make a nomination to the CIP advisory board which is expected to take effect after the amendments in parliament.

The prime minister said it is to the disadvantage of the opposition if they don’t engage in the governance of the country while in opposition.

Public Servant Ambassador Colin Murdoch, clergyman Rev Edwards, a member of the chamber of commerce and a person nominated by the leader of the opposition are the prospective member of the board.

  1. Opposition? Which opposition Mr. PM. The one you buried in last March. Didn’t you yourself declared Lovell’s political career over? All they can do is go on their affiliated radio station Observer which give them a platform to be heard.

  2. Funny how it took a US threat on the CIP for him to recognize the opposition. When you go on a Trumplike mission to undo all that the opppsition has done such as the Investment Board and the Five island school, its brazen to ask them to work with ypu.

  3. Why would they get involved with such a messed up program. They don’t condone this government’s total lack of transparency and the profusion of non-conforming diplomatic passports not to mention the recent scandal of stolen items. Good decision to steer clear.

  4. What is a CiP review board? All this means is that politicians will continue to run the CIP program. If board members do not agree with what the politicians are doing they will be fired. Stop taking people for fools with your window dressing board.

  5. Can’t be the same Rev. Edwards who preached a sermon on ZDK against the C.I.P… Giving away his birth- right (passport). Appx. 1Hour long sermon…. is it that Reverend??? No, no could’nt be him.
