The United States recently appointed Ambassador Roger Nyhus to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. During his visit to Antigua and Barbuda, he met with senior officials, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, and Foreign Minister E.P Chet Greene.
Prime Minister Browne emphasized the crucial role of the United States in Antigua and Barbuda, citing it as the country’s largest trading partner. He highlighted the significant trade deficit, emphasizing the importance of the US for the nation’s economy and food security.
PM Browne also mentioned the country’s support for the US in international forums and addressed the outstanding WTO issue, urging Ambassador Nyhus to focus on finding a resolution.
Foreign Minister Greene commended the enduring friendly relations with the United States, noting that disagreements have never been detrimental to the strong relationship. He anticipated robust exchanges during Ambassador Nyhus’s tenure in the Eastern Caribbean.

Mr. PM, let us face the facts – WTO, WHO, the International Criminal Court, all of them are controlled by the USA. So in reality, the USA will not be compelled to pay us and they would not subject themselves to little Antigua’s claim. We can just write that off as bad debts and do not spend any more good resource on legal avenues.
Instead, let us try and beg the USA to funds certain projects that would be good for us and give them some PR. Then we can use the gifts to cover the bad debts.
Just check the USA foreign policy, they like to see when small nations come to them. They like to see the long lines from South America trying to cross their borders – it is by design. The money they give to Israel for 2 years, could be spent in South American and help to develop that region – then, there will be no need for these people to migrate. But instead, the money is given to rich Israel.
