The expansion of the Tomlinson Cemetery has faced further delays due to weather-related setbacks and security concerns, with the government now expected to provide an updated timeline for completion.
During the post-cabinet media briefing, Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst acknowledged that heavy rainfall had slowed construction efforts, while a recent theft at the site had further complicated progress.
“There was a period of sustained rainfall that made it difficult to carry out certain aspects of the work,” Hurst said.
“Additionally, there was an incident where materials were stolen, and security breaches have raised concerns about protecting the site.”
The expansion project includes the construction of new internal roads, a designated parking area, and additional burial spaces to accommodate the increasing demand for cemetery plots.
Authorities have assured that once the weather improves and security measures are strengthened, work will resume to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible.
Further details on the revised timeline are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
