Danley Philip has taken up the role of Director of Administration at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, effective 1 July.

His appointment comes as the hospital undergoes a period of expansion and modernisation in healthcare delivery.

A seasoned financial and healthcare management professional, Philip holds a master’s degree in Accounting and Finance Management and a hospital management certificate from Johns Hopkins University. He is also a certified board director.

Philip previously served as Accounting Manager at the American University of Antigua (AUA) and worked as a business consultant, advising organisations on strategic and operational reforms.

He advocates for care-driven leadership in health services, stating that “the purpose of serving others should come from care, not necessity or profit.”

His key areas of expertise include healthcare administration, financial analysis, strategic oversight, risk compliance, and team leadership. His appointment is expected to strengthen the hospital’s focus on patient-centred care.

  1. Congrats to Danley Phillip on your new role. To whom much is given, much is expected. Wishing you all the best on this new journey.

  2. With his finance and hospital management background, he seems like a solid choice. Now we’ll see if he delivers.

  3. Mr. PM. Why do you feel that you owe certain people an income stream. Everywhere you tried him he has failed. Some people are just not the right material for the job. Stop putting square pegs in round holes. What is his qualification to be appointed director of administration at SLBMC. Our only and main hospital. We need qualified people there to support the management. This is not a good appointment.

    • @Less We Forget…. “What is his qualification to be appointed director of administration at SLBMC…. We need qualified people there to support the management.” Seems like when they were teaching reading comprehension in school you skipped classes. The article clearly stated that the goodly gentleman is the holder of a MASTER’S degree in Accounting and Financial Management, and a certificate in HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT. Not only that, he has experience as Accounting MANAGER at AUA and has worked as a business consultant.

What more qualifications does he need, the blood of a dragon or the hammer of Thor?

  4. I like his motto health driven from care and not profit, take it away sir let’s make an impact on the service offered

  5. They have to come with their politics some of these people marched around this hospital just imagine protested against a hospital that is to save lives and nurse the sick back to health they walked around with candles shouting we ain’t touching this we ain’t touching that and the yellow minister at the time said it plain on the radio and TV we ain’t touching that now the same set of people want a say who must manage it the same set of people got help there Sir Molwyn had to fight like Ali and advocate day and night for Mount st John , congratulations Mr Phillip if all the staff does their work yours will become easy in all that you do let the nation of Antigua and Barbuda get optimum service from this great institution

I do not need to know the article. I know the entire family from since he was a young man. Do you own due diligence. He was chairman of Social Security Board and then replaced and became chairman of Boundaries Commission. The PM keep trying to find a job for him to keep him happy. And don’t tell me about his credentials. Follow his past employment and see why he was fired from all of them.

  7. Heheheee! Two ABLP supporters having a spat! @ Less We Forget and Dave Ray going toe to toe!

Ahhhh, where’s my popcorn 🍿 bullfoot soup 🍲 and Wadadli beers? 🍻 😋

    Ding ding 🔔 round 2 … 🥊🥊 🥊🥊

    🤣🤣🤣

  8. I am sure Danley Phillip is in his 70’s and have acquired his riches over the years?

What will he be contributing to the Social Security coffers? How many more pensioners are employed with the govt depriving young people of their future?

Why deprive a young bright mind of such privilege?

Is it because he’s one of them patting the PM’s back and now getting some rewards?

  9. Changing the management will not change anything if the unfair, bias and nepotism remain the same. That’s the biggest problem, and we the staff refuse to go above and beyond if the unfair treatment is not addressed. Everybody turning a blind eye. Yes, we must think about the patients, but if everything falls on deaf ears we must take a stand at any cost. So everybody will seem as if they not doing a good job if the root of the problem keeps getting ignored.

Brix what is it you have not learned about me? I always speak my mind. Even though I am a supporter of the ABLP because of their economic agenda and many other things they do. But that doesn’t mean that I do not have my own opinion. But throughout my life I have learned that you can have your own opinion but there is only one person to make the decision. And yes sometimes it turns out that I was right, but other time I was wrong. When it comes to Mr. Phillips I say to the PM you musn’t feel like you owe him anything. He tried him out at Social Security Board and then he placed him as Chair of the Bounderies Commission and now this! Just like Lamin. They are useless. But they get the soft heart of the PM.
