A bill aimed at modernizing the planning process and enhancing the efficiency of existing laws, the House of Representatives passed the Physical Planning Amendment Bill 2024.

This legislation amends the Principal Act, initially passed in 2003, by introducing significant updates. Notable changes include the creation of the position of Deputy Town & Country Planner and the implementation of more stringent penalties for non-compliance.

These increased penalties are intended to deter violations and ensure adherence to planning regulations.

The bill, developed through consultations with the Development Control Authority (DCA), also clarifies the definition of a beach concerning the shoreline and foreshore.
