Granny found guilty of beating granddaughter to death

A neighbor of murder accused, Millicent Cornwall-Roberts said he witnessed the accused beating 17-year-old Jael Thomas hours before the teenager was found dead at her home.

The 70-year-old defendant is on trial in the High Court accused of killing her granddaughter after severely beating her with a stick.

Kevin James said he heard a tapping sound while he was in a house just opposite the accused home, in Mock Pond, All Saints in September of 2014.

James told the court, he went outside to investigate after hearing screaming.

The man said as he approached the defendant’s fence, he saw the woman beating the teenager with a stick.

He described the stick as being about four feet in length and 2 inches wide and says the deceased was on the ground throughout the beating.

The witness recalled the defendant did not respond when he shouted she was too wicked for beating the girl in that manner.

James testified, during the beating, the defendant told the deceased to stand up and Thomas only responded saying she couldn’t move her hand.

The witness said the defendant eventually dragged Thomas up through the yard toward the house.
